Its too soon for Trump to find his scapegoat. There are still more than 3 months till the elections. He should have saved it for September. Unless some things change radically apart from the hell that is going to happen in Florida, Texas,Arizona , Georgia in August the virus is going to hit again other states later on in the fall if there arent lockdowns/mask wearing. He should have saved this move for September so he can put the blame for everything on Fauci. He is getting too desperate.

The problem for Trump is that Fauci was already showing significant signs of defiance. Two weeks ago Fauci said we clearly are not doing a good job of slowing it down. This past week he said he hasn’t briefed Trump in two months. Trump had to scapegoat him now.
Agreed, and as soon as the President gives a viable explanation of why he did not wear a mask for months after the CDC and Fauci said to wear one, we can get to Fauci. I have to say this sure sounds like the President again failing to take responsibility for anything and looking for a scapegoat. If the President wants to play the “who has been wrong” game he will lose, and it will be embarrassing for the President.
He didn't wear one because it's a free country. If you are worried about non-mask wearers, then you should wear one and avoid those people. Fauci however endangered the public at large by claiming they don't work. And Trump is accountable for relying on a man who lies about key things like this and trusts a man like Fauci with ties to China. The left should be attacking Fauci actually and use it as a proxy on Trump. But the left has poor strategy.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Trump turning against the governors of the states of AZ, TX and FL. He's thrown Republicans under the bus before and probably feels that the base in those states like him more than their own governors.
