Lol not even close. If you could see the potential in Capela back in the day, then the potential in Qi should be just as obvious. The thing is, you didn’t actually know. You are just justifying your surviving beliefs using hindsight bias. If Clint had not become a good center, you would have said you knew all along he had no potential.

Objectively, Qi has massive potential. Whether he reaches his ceiling or not is an entirely different story.

Nope as soon as I saw him dunk all over the raptors in Toronto in his debut I know he was going to a force who can be a good rim protection player and a good pick and roll defender which he showed straight off the bat. Sorry but Zhi might be a solid bench player down the road but massive potential ? Lol no

His strength is he has a nice shooting touch but even that is overrated. He is way to slow in today’s small ball era to defend the pick and roll

Capela missed his first 10 shots in the NBA (first 11 free throws) and in general looked completely lost in his early efforts. That great "debut" you remember didn't come until the 74th game of the year.

The Rockets knew Capela wasn't ready right off, so they let him stay in RGV most of the year, where he belonged. For whatever reason, we aren't letting Chee stay down in the valley, so we unfortunately have to watch how not ready he is every few games.

People saying he’s slow must not be watching the games. I’ve seen many times he’s been able to recover from being beat off the dribble to block a player’s shot at the rim. That’s not slow for someone that’s 7 feet tall.

I think he needs to mix up his offensive game and use his height for low post moves as well as continue working on his 3 ball, but I don’t know if the coaching staff is telling him to only shoot threes which I don’t think is good. It’s always good to have other options. And he needs to work on his catches which will get better over time.

We saw what Yao and Capela looked liked their rookie year so we should allow Qi the same leeway. Not saying he’s going to be just like those guys, but he has a lot of potential. He just needs time and experience.

We knew as much about Capela as the league did => 1st round pick
    -vs-
The other is a later 2nd round pick in a really soft draft => not as much interest / potential from the league’s point of view.

    Potential
    -vs-
    team fit
is really a better conversation, IMO.

Rim protector/roller/rebounder is the team need with CP3 & Harden.

Again I never said anything about offense. Capela was tailor made for today’s nba on the DEFENSIVE end because of his agility and foot speed especially his ability to defend the pick and roll.

Agreed with most BUT 20 pounds in a single offseason????
    That SURELY won't happen.
He needs 2 to 3 more seasons to be strong enough.

He is not the only one. Tons of weak young Cs need the same time to be finally capable not to be blown by the wind when a starter C sneezes.

15 out of his 24 shots are three pointers
So you suckers think he’s an inside player ?

And you don’t think the coaching staff knew this when he was drafted ?

Maybe you all deserve to be suckered by max Kellerman
I hope he pisses you all off

So basically you are saying he is Clint Capela 2.0. Capela couldnt dribble and chew gum at the same time his first couple of months in the league. Hopefully Zhou Qi has a similar career path.

The future will bring more missed three pointers and more stupid people thinking he’s like Clint Capella who doesn’t shoot threes
The future is full of blind ass fans

This. Our scrubs are the worst scrubs in the league, led by the Garbage mamba. He really has no business in the NBA.

We need players like Barbosa, players that COULD actually play.
