ESPN Rumors show Yankees possibly interested in Orlando Merced.

If they gave back good value (nice prospect), I'd bid OM adieu with a smile.

Merced's the first option off the bench. I would want someone decent.

Well you can scratch it anyway, as the Yankees dealt 26 year old outfielder Marcus Thames for Ruben Sierra of the rangers today.

Yankees send Thames to Rangers for Sierra

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Associated Press

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers traded outfielder Ruben Sierra to the New York Yankees on Friday in exchange for outfielder Marcus Thames.

Thames has been assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma of the Pacific Coast League.

To replace Sierra on the roster, Texas recalled outfielder Kevin Mench from Oklahoma.

The Yankees lead the Boston Red Sox by a half-game in the AL East, but All-Star center fielder Bernie Williams is on crutches because of an injured knee. He isn't expected to return until sometime in July.

The club's first baseman and designated hitter, Nick Johnson, is also out. He was leading the league in walks until he suffered a stress fracture.

Stupid Rangers. They should have at least been able to get a pitcher in that deal. I can't believe they would trade for and outfielder prospect. They are already stacked at that position with Gonzalez, Everett, Mench...

Ruben Sierra is my fav. player. Too bad his career got derailed. He was on his way to a Hall of fame type career until he got traded and put on muscle.
