During the Ray of Light phase (which musically I didn’t like) she sort of embraced the jacked hot grandma look and she really had some memorable moments like playing Coachella etc. and playing guitar pretty well etc. I just don’t understand what she has to prove at this stage and why she feels the need to play this character unless this character just is who she is if she really is drugged up out of her mind and depressed enough to go try and be 20 again both physically, mentally, and musically.
she comes off as desperate to stay relevant. madonna was a fashion icon and a trend-setter. she was always someone who totally changed her image from album-to-album and it worked in the 80's and 90's. but now it just seems goofy as hell. with that last album she started calling herself "madame X" and wore an eye patch. like a pirate. last i saw her was on some talk show a few months ago. she had a "grill" and kept talking about how cool she looked with it. it reeked of desperation. she seems like she is trying to rip-off hip-hop culture, which is weird b/c madonna is pretty far away from hip-hop. i also remember her calling her son the n-word on social media a few years ago.
I'm all for doing whatever and not prescribing to a certain style, but when you have to call attention to yourself is when it's all an act for attention. Anti-cool.
