You're focusing on team accomplishments. Retiring a jersey is an individual accomplishmwent. What have they done individually? Calvin made 1 all-star team. Rudy made 5. Neither of them made any all-NBA teams. Yao has 6 all-star appearances and made 5 all-NBA teams. His resume is more impressive. He was a top 50 player with Portland, not us. And that 95 championship team was built around Olajuwon. Drexler played less than 4 seasons with us in the twilight of his career. Even though he was effective and helped us win a title, if you look at his Rockets' career from only a performance perspective, it's not deserving of a jersey retirement.

the kid said Rudy has 0 rings. How many rings did he win wekko? tell me. It's just further proof that more and more people on this board DO NOT KNOW what Clutch City is. Do kids really think that Clutch City was named after Yao or Tmac's Rockets?
He's talking about rings in the context of jersey retirements which is the topic of the thread. When Rudy's jersey was retired in 1982, he had no rings.
no, you are talking about it in that context. this dude probably wouldn't know Vernon Maxwell from Cedric Maxwell. You even think the poster was even born in 1982? anyone who ever question why Rudy T's number was retired is obvious not a long time Rockets fan.
For purely on court accomplishments, no. But I easily understand why the Rox probably will. To get angry and indignant about it is pretty ridiculous.
His on-court accomplishments include 6 all-star appearances and 5 all-NBA teams. Why isn't that worthy of a jersey retirement?
It's going to be retired, don't know why anyone's even arguing. You're better off arguing about whether the sun should rise tomorrow or not.
You people have such little reading comprehension that I have to explain when discussing jersey retirement, that Rudy T's coaching rings are irrelevant? zzz
Look kiddies, If Yao's number gets retired we'd be happy for him. However dragging Rudy T and Calvin Murphy who were the godfathers of the Houston Rockets and questioning their merits on why they are retired show's that you're Fredo.
Absolutely not. Yao was just a sideshow. An asian player who was tall, and was extremely hyped up more than what he accomplished. Granted, he has some very good skills for his size. But he was one of the softest players I've seen, and he literally had issues with quicker players fronting him and getting physical. He did nothing for this franchise to warrant his jersey in the rafters. If he did, it would be an insult to the other greats who TRUELY deserved to be there. Joke city?
Yao represents every good qualities of Rockets and NBA. Loyalty, class, talented, hard working, respect. Yes, Yao deserved to have his Jersey retired. He represents Houston Rockets perfectly.
you have a point with Drexler, but Rudy T and Calvin Murphy were OGs of the Houston Rockets. Let's not forget Calvin is a hall of fame player too. Drexler in 95 was absolutely key in winning the championship and the team had to adjust to his game as well. He was a major factor that we won a second title. I believe Drexler's jersey goes back to his U of H and Sterling days. Houston loves one of their own.
