If they guy didn't sell his soul to the teaparty devil this year, would the more centrist minded 2008 Romney had a better shot against Obama?

That means he would be showing his 2007 tax returns and detroit should still go bankrupt

Tell us what you think the difference is between the 2008 and 2012 versions of Romney. I detested him every bit as much 4 years ago and consistently ripped him during the 2008 GOP primaries.

In reality, the only difference was in 2008 Republicans had a viable alternative to the flip-flopping chameleon with no character. This year they didn't and Mitt got the nomination by default. The white hot spotlight of press & public scrutiny along with the need to legitimize himself with right-wing kooks made his flaws obvious (and it wasn't pretty).

The Republicans could have put Jesus himself up for election in 2008 and still lost. No way any Republican was getting elected after the disaster known as George W Bush.

McCain and Romney would have been a good pairing as Mitt's business success and relative time away from government would have better reinforced the "maverick" card than the sub-literate drive-time conservative he got instead. Might have also kept Paulson from calling McCain a maroon in his memoir.
