I know this idea has been floating around, but this article shows the extent of it.

    My favorite part.

The crazy thing is, there were people collecting pay checks to do nothing and they quit? Now they'll go home, do nothing, and collect a pay check.

How do you know this? How do you get unemployment benefits after quitting a job?

Typical responses. Don't discuss the content of the article, just bash the poster's minimal commentary.

What is there to discuss about the article? GM's Volt didn't take off like they expected, so the battery company didn't have a market, and many of its employees had nothing to do. As a result, the company went bankrupt. Doesn't seem terribly surprising - that's the nature of companies involved in emerging technologies.

The only thing the poster commented on was the employees quitting, so that's what people responded to.

You could comment on the use of tax payer money to fund such nonsense. In a free market this company would have gone out of business instead of hard working tax payers paying for them to play monopoly.

This company did go out of business. The US government, like private investors, has a long history of investing in emerging technologies. A lot of those companies and technologies go to the scrap heap. A lot change the future of the country.

I can't imagine anyone expected every emerging technology company or that every company given a loan would be successful. You'd have to look at all the different investments the government made and their results as a whole to determine if that stimulus was good or bad. If you just cherrypick the failures, anything will look bad.

I hear ya. if only we knew more about the stimulus money.....

Maybe the discussion should be that this kind of **** could be stopped much sooner if Obama would quit hiding the information.

The lefties can't collect on unemployment for quitting. It's considered a voluntary separation. They do get a free plane ticket on the first flight back to Mexico. haha!

I know you're not supposed to be able to, but I've seen people do it. I know on this forum I have told the story of my buddy who quit his job and now collects his unemployment, which is about $200 more every two weeks then his paycheck at his old job. It will run out eventually, but that's not the point.

You're also not supposed to be able to have more than one 'Obamaphone' but Monique in Baltimore proved that you can have up to 30.

Didn't the DOE also set aside billions of dollars for automotive research ATVM program in 2008 when a Republican was in office?

How about when US Advanced Battery Consortium and Council for Automotive research were formed in the 90s, receiving a stream of constant funding from the DOE for the past 20 years or so?

I suppose projects like these (many of which fail) aren't considered truly wasteful until we have a wealth-redistributing, socialist, commie-pig like Obama in office.
