Just read McCullers is looking at a back specialist. Doesn't look good and I don't think he'll be the same like the beginning of the season.

I would fire the whole training/medical staff in the off season. We've had two or three pitchers come back too early this year and when our players do come back they don't look healthy.

I am pretty sure everybody here wants playoff wins, dude. The difference is that I do not feel the need to rant and rave, proclaim that the sky is falling, and that we are in some kind of dire predicament.

Your terrible Texans straw man aside, I may be mistaken, but I was not aware that the playoffs had started and we lost. This team is about as guaranteed as you can get to make the playoffs. They have also shown that they are good enough to win on any given night, and because it is baseball, they can lose on any given night. A Gray or Britton would have made minuscule differences in the odds of winning. And before you go spouting how bad our bullpen has been, I will point out that 1) there are different ways to rank their effectiveness, and 2) for the most part, the guys that are sticking it up will not be seeing much, if any, action in the playoffs.

What will determine our fate in the playoffs is the health of the pitchers. Should I point out that that when healthy, there is not a lot of difference between what Gray has done and what McHugh has done. I understand that any team can always get better, and I am a little disappointed that some of the rumored trades did not come to fruition. But, in case you missed it, this team did get better by exchanging Aoki for Fisher. I would say that is about as big an improvement as any team made at the deadline.

Ummm, because it is the truth? I see no need to get emotional and overreact to a lack of deadline trades when the team has performed the way it has. I fully expect the Astros to win the World Series with the structure that it currently has. I also expect more championship titles in the near future.

Nobody knows how they will perform, and if we can keep a lineup of pitchers to even give us the chance we deserve. I just hope Correa comes back sooner than later. Without Springer AND Correa we have been in trouble at the plate for the most part. We need all the help we can get without any consistency in our pitchers staying healthy. I am disgusted that our GM didn't get us more help for the bullpen by the trade deadline. It may come back to haunt us in October. Let's hope not, but I am worried.

None of that is going to mean squat in the playoffs.

Yes that is how you spell his name, congratulations.

Of course, I do realize this is just a failed attempt at humor. However, if I was Luhnow, I would be the General Manager of the best team in the American League, and you would still be an internet wannabe, thinking he knows better how to run the club.

That is absolutely correct. Of course, nothing I have said even hints that it does. So is this just another one of your attempts to change the narrative to suit your opinion?

On the other hand, what it does mean is that there is a really, really, really good chance that the Astros will be in the playoffs. Not what I would call a predicament.

Your post was a sarcastic attempt to dismiss the concern about the future which is the topic of this thread. You were the one actually trying to change the "narrative" of this thread to something irrelevant to the topic.

Jesus Christ Peacock. 36 pitches in 3 innings? I'm not used to this low pitch count

    Not everyone f
Yup, arrogant much. As if yours is the only narrative possible. In reality, you also don't know the future state of our pitching come October.

My comment had nothing to do with concerns about the future and everything to do with showing the laughability of some people's emotional reaction to Luhnow not making a trade that they wanted done. In case you have forgotten, here is the comment I replied to "I'm hoping Lunhow realizes he messed up and tries to get Verlander after waivers.. Overpay if you have to, it's your fault we are in this predicament." I made no remark about Luhnow messing up, or acquiring Verlander, which, while I disagree with both, are reasonable. But I thought the belief that the team is in some sort of predicament was hilarious, and sarcastically said so. Of course, in keeping with that chain of thought you chimed in with "None of that is going to mean squat in the playoffs." Yet, in your mind, I was the one that changed the narrative. I am not sure whether you actually believe the stuff you are shoveling, or are just throwing out BS in the wild hope people will buy it. Either way, I am just going to take my cue from the others that you have pulled this on and ignore you.

Agreed. The Astros have too much talent to just make a playoff appearance. Forget playoff wins... I WANT TO WIN A WORLD SERIES!

4 games later, it's now an 8.5 game lead and the only reason we won any of those 4 games is because our offense is insane. Instead of pitchers needing run support I bet our offense would like some run denial from the pitching staff. If we have to score more than 6 runs in order to win the game we will not go far in the playoffs... but hey, still a nice lead so why worry right?

Couple of things, I am not a usual ranter but this deadline was REALLY disappointing because this team is so special. Keuchel/McCullers/McHugh does Gray change that rotation? I dunno, but right now Keuchel looks rough after injury, and McCullers is looking at a freaking back specialist. You are comfortable going into playoffs with Keuchel, McHugh, Fiers but thank God we still have Tucker next year? You are right we have a huge lead and I know we are pretty much guarenteed the playoffs but that is because this team is historic. And if they dont make it to the WS everyone will look back at Liriano and Fisher for Aoki and think WTF. Just because I'm saying it's a dire situation before we fail doesnt mean we are good to go.

How would you like to rank the BP effectiveness? ERA which has been good lately? No, that is only because a starter, who is sitting at 100+ pitches in the 5th leaves 2 men on base, and someone from our BP gives up an immediate double. Those runs go against the starter not the RP. I know that is how it is supposed to score but the metric of inherited runners scoring is so bad with this bullpen. No confidence in any of them other than Giles. Harris is even on the DL. So I am the dire straw man ranter, you are the sunshine and daisies pusher we'll just have to disagree on this one.
