New Orleans Pelicans just doesn't go together to me or flow off the tongue right, just as much as Oklahoma City Thunder (which would sound so much better without the -City on it). Louisiana is the connection to pelicans and it's even on the state flag. I guess having New Orleans in the name is more marketable but when combined with the nickname it doesn't make as much sense and doesn't flow right imo.
Answered your own question. Either way, Pelicans is a terrible name that only a handful of folks in the New Orleans area truly appreciate. "Krewe" would've been my pick.
Hmmm...I hear "OKC Thunder" a lot, but I never hear people call them Oklahoma Thunder. But I agree..."Oklahoma City Thunder" is a little bit too much for a name.
