By now I'm sure all us have watched and read as much as we could about our draft prospects Its the age old question for the 2nd pick do we go for highest floor (certainty) or highest ceiling (potential)? Who do you think is the safest pick?
Green easily. Higher ceiling and higher floor. At best with Mobley you have a Capella-like project that will take 5 years to develop.
Im not really interested in highest floor. If we’re talking floors in 3 yrs, we picked the wrong guy. floor v ceiling talk is for 23/24 picks and second round
Green is the one you take if you want to get results right away, which is what you want from a 2nd pick.
But if they both reach potential, yet Mobley took a little longer, doesn’t that improve our pick next year.
And ceiling talk is for cathedrals,,,where you pray to the basketball gods, with incantations to reveal the next basketball jesus, or basketball lucifer (in the case of Harden)
Mobley has the higher ceiling between him and Green, you are talking about the next AD vs the next Devin Booker. Mobley can create on his own and prob has a better offensive game than Capela right now. Unfortunately he also has the lowest floor otherwise the no 1 will be between him and Cade rn. The one with the highest floor is Suggs, not Green thats cuz Green didnt play any defense and avoided contact a lot in GLeague. Unlike him, Suggs doesnt have a single con, except his ceiling is lower than the top 3 picks. Green is the most balanced prospect between the 3 he has a floor and ceiling in between Mobley and Suggs.
Mobley starts day one and will protect the rim like a champ. Green obviously starts day 1 too, but his defensive shortcomings may prove too great a liability.
Between Green and Mobley, Green's the safer pick. Mobley has a much lower floor than the other top picks, and higher bust potential. Suggs is the overall safe pick (though I'd rather take a flyer on Mobley than Suggs for the higher ceiling, even though I prefer Green overall.)
You dont want results right away, you wanna tank and collect more picks. Also Green isnt gonna get you results, he cant play defense yet and he is gonna have nights where he isnt that efficient. Both him and Mobley are projects, Suggs is the instant impact player between the 3.
Thank you for your perspective, but I can’t agree. I think you simply see 7 feet and miss many other important aspects.
I think the NBA is starting to give more value for intangibles like leadership and I agree with you here. My only worry with Suggs is that he needs to develop his left hand, which is a long process. His court vision is easily the top in class, however.
At worst, Mobley can be a defensive specialist/big and that can get him a pretty long career in the NBA. At worst, Green is another guard that can score but brings nothing else to the table and those guys either luck out and latch onto a team/player that gives them a roster spot (like how JR Smith was able to get work because of LeBron) extending their careers or they flame out in a few years.
Yes I can and I did. Mobley isn’t advanced. The PAC 12 is weak. Mobley could develop into a Duncan-like player, but the chances are low and the timeline is long.
