I meant in those categories, which players will be the cream of the crop? Not just another "best squad you can put together" in the nba thread.

    PGs
    ___

    Francis
    Miller

if it's who will be the next jordan's or olajuwon's... i'd have to say maybe nobody

shaq and duncan are the closest thing to turning around an entire team no matter who they're playing with into a finals contender. that was what jordan could do and what olajuwon showed during the rockets championship years.

for the rest of the guys... even though they're super skilled and athletic, there are too many other guys just as skilled and athletic entering the nba nowadays. the thing bout jordan and olajuwon is simply that they stood head and shoulders about the rest for years no matter who was drafted.

... maybe i'm reading the thread title too closely ...

What about Shaq, he's already better then Hakeem used to be... Then offcourse Duncan and Garnett, and Francis and Bryant make it complete. Then we musn;t forget McGrady and Nowitzki.

Hakeem during his best two years was far better than Shaq. Unfortunately, it now looks like Shaq will surpass Hakeem in total career value. Unless that big toe gets in the way.

And he's not getting any better, so I don't know why you would say "already better." If he's not better now... he never will be. IN fact, I'd say Shaq peaked two years ago. Last year Kobe and Shaq were more of a partnership, but during the first Laker championship... Kobe was a sidekick.

Still, go watch some tapes of 93-94 and 94-95. I guarantee you that you'll never speak such blasphemy again.

I agree completely. Even further, I think Shaq, in his early years, was even better than Shaq now. He didn't know the game as well, but he was just so new and so big. He dominated, his stats show it, and when he and Penny got going, they should have won a championship for that year, and many years. And, the reason he didn't, was because Hakeem outplayed him in the Finals, just as he would outplay him today if he was in his prime.

As for coaching, don't forget about Rick Carlise, my candidate for coach of the year. There really isn't too much talent there in Detroit.
