    I had this argument over the weekend with some friends. Yes, we were bored. A case can be made for all 4 of these stars.

    1. Rodney Dangerfield - Come on. Every single word that comes out of his mouth is classic.

    2. Ted Knight - A darkhorse. You can't deny that he's perfect for the part of the snooty club manager.

    3. Bill Murray - Carl Spackler is in his own world in this movie. Most of his lines were improvised.

    4. Chevy Chase - I love his super dry delivery. He's got some great lines too.

    Though, if I had to pick from one of these four, I'd go with Chevy Chase.

    The beauty of the movie is that there is no star. Each role was written, cast, directed and acted perfectly, culminating into a cinematic masterpiece.

    Caddyshack came out in 1980, over 25 years ago. Now think back to 1980. Wouldn't comedies from the 1950's seem outdated and no longer funny?

    They had comedies in the 50's?

    If you grow up with a movie then it likely will never get outdated to you. If the movie was before your time then you may never get it.

    In the 80's (and since) I've enjoyed watching LOTS of comedies from the 50's (or earlier).

    Perhaps there is some sort of nostalgia that makes it kind of funny but not really. I feel that comedy changes and most of the jokes from 25 years ago just aren't funny by today's standards. I also feel pretty confident that comedies that I like today will not be as funny 25 years from now.
