It is crazy that back then, the Rockets could get a player as talented as Francis for what they did.

What Francis did on the court isn't a big deal now, elite athletes at the point are fairly common. Back in 2000 it wasn't like that. There were only a handful of point guards in NBA history that could score, rebound and pass like Francis did early in his career. Obviously Francis failed to keep developing and he also a lot of off the court issues.... but for awhile his upside was very high.

Steve Francis was so fun to watch…I was actually mad at JVG his 1st year here because I felt he was stifling Stevie’s game and restricting his creativity

The Rockets felt good about Eddie Griffin coming out of Seton Hall University and traded Jason Collins, Brandon Armstrong and Richard Jefferson for his draft rights.

Rockets were the first team sports team to trade 2 gay players in one deal.

    Collins and Jefferson.

Houston clearly won this deal. Brent Price and Antoine Carr were on the last legs of their career. Othella Harrington was a solid young player off the bench and Michael Dickerson had a solid rookie year. However getting the #2 pick for that package was a steal. They didn't even get Cuttino Mobley!

Overall, I think Orlando lost that deal. They gave up a 1st and a 2nd round pick and receive guys who did not make much of a difference on the court. Why did they partake in this trade?

Steve and Cat were carrying some damn bums to .500 yearly.

Would give anything to have seen at least 1 more full year of:

    Steve
    Cat
    Posey
    EGriffin
    Yao

    With a healthy Rudy T.

JVG was an awful coach here, simple as that. First Round Exit machine. SVG is even worse.

I loved those early Francis years. This was only a few years removed from championships and freaking Dream and Barkley were still on the team. Having an explosive guard with ridiculous athleticism and potential was the perfect stepping stone to the next era.

I think it's too soon to tell. Ask me in 22 years.

Maybe Vancouver will have a team by then.

I don't know who won but Vancouver definitely lost. Lost a potential franchise player, lost some credibility/likeability when Francis forced the trade, and of course lost an entire NBA franchise.

That being said, I was really sad that Dickerson was included in the trade. I thought him and Mobley were going to be the Rockets backcourt for the next decade.

In this line of thinking, the Rockets whole existence has led to nothing but the two championship years. Everyone's Jersey should be immediately removed from the rafters except for Dream's, Clyde's & Rudy's (as coach).

Feels like there is no way that trade happens today. Imagine what it would take to trade for Green/Suggs/Mobley.
