If you could have either Gerry Hunsicker or Carlos Beltran back which would you rather have. I'm sure most will select Beltran, but I think the Astros are going to be in trouble in the future without Hunsicker calling the shots.
First choice: JR Richard. Most overpowering pitcher EVER. Scared the holy hell out of anyone who stepped up to the plate. Mike Scott, circa 1986. Absolutely unhittable. He made the best hitters in the league look like high school players. And Fred Gladding made watching bad teams fun. Worst hitter I've ever seen in a major league uni. He nearly always struck out on three straight pitches. If a pitcher threw even a single ball, the pitcher's teammates would razz him. One game I saw, he got two quick strikes, then fouled off 6 or 7 straight pitches, and the crowd was going nuts, cheering louder with each foul ball. By the time Freddy finally struck out, the pitcher was furious and his face was beet red. Hysterical moment.
This should be a no-brainer. With Beltran, you get, well, Betran. With Hunsicker, you get ten more years of (in no particular order): RJ Beltran Blum (or was it Lamb) for Truby Pettitte ...geez, the list is astounding of ridiculously good deals he made, but I'm tired and my memory is foggy. Hunsicker was wicked good. The best freaking GM in Astros history, and one of the best in the league during his tenure. Head and shoulders far above any other Astros GM. Here's hoping Purpura can even carry his jock.
Im sorry when you have time go check out beltrans and berkmans stats side to side...Berkman has better numbers in less years only thing he lacks is the defense of Beltran.....He made his money in the playoffs...didn't do jack before that. I could care less right now.... Stop dwelling on this crap and lets get ready for the season.
Carlos didn't do jack before playoffs? His BA was down but he did everything else like steal bases and he hit does big home runs verus the cubs. Overall, Beltren better than berkman.
