Although that is technically true, what it's saying is that, in the worst case scenario where he is cut, they wasted $75k of Les Alexander's money for 9 days of possible moves that never materialized (which is not that bad).

Nothing, you waive him by the end of the day...no harm and no foul. In 2 months when Uthoff becomes tradeable, you do the trade for MELO.. lol

But i do think something will happen before the close of business today.

But think of our TPE as living, breathing financial asset. As time passes, bit by bit it starts turning into an expiring contract, until it is one large expiring contract.

For a team like NY, I bet this comes up in the discussion. If they send us Melo now, they can waive all those guys. The longer they wait, the more this asset becomes expiring rather than NG. Still a great thing to have right now given any major player makes over $20m so we need to be able to match without having to give up 2 of Ariza, Gordon, Anderson if possible.

I would say it's a big deal because it likely means Morey missed out on a deal he thought he could have done by today. I don't think anybody really cares about Kelly or his contract one way or the other.
