I thought that at the very least, this would be a very interesting election season. Coming out of the conventions, it seemed to be, but Trump's marked drop seemed to tamper any enthusiasm. He's back to even now, but I don't sense much renewed interest in the campaigns, of either candidate. Is this just me, or has the negative ratings of both candidates tended to dampen enthusiasm across the board?

Everyone realizes we are ****ed either way . People are starting to realize that maybe we should be more involved in politics so that **** like this doesn't happen , it's a sober self reflection. Either that or football season started.

Typical of the exhaustion between the conventions and the debates. It's all bluster until they're on stage together next week.

These 2 candidates aren't helping things either. This is, by far, the strangest election I've witnessed.

When both candidates are bottom of the barrel awful, where one belongs in jail and the other is a snake oil salesman.....yet one of them is going to be the next president no matter what, yeah, nothing to be excited about.

I'm interested only because I still think I have a chance to get my expensive mattress for free.

I have as much interest in this election as did on the Rockets season around mid March.

Two really disliked candidates have done nothing but be gaffe machines since they locked up their respective nominations. Honestly, it's depressing and understandable.

I disagree with the premise of the OP. There isnt ONE day that both of the primary candidates are talked about. There is TONS of interest...and both sides are trying to tear each other down.

Whether they are qualified is definitely a question, but the nation is paying attention at both of them.

In regards to smaller/local and statewide races...not so much intrigue there...

Clinton is unlikeable and not a great candidate - it will be a painful 4 years with her in office.

Trump is just downright dangerous to the country. It would be a painful 24 years with him or whenever he would decide to relinquish power to Donald Jr.

People are tired of discussing the stupid crap of the day by Trump, the media and HJillary's reaction.

I have never seen a campaign in which you can drive for days around Houston and not see a Trump or a Hillary bumper sticker.

Football season > election between Frank Underwood and Selena Meyer
Of course, the debates will bring attention back to this thing for the mainstream crowd.

Yes, it's a Presidential race, so it's definitely in the news. But I'm not getting the vibe that people care all that much. Maybe because both sides are just trying to tear each other down, but both already have historic negatives, so kind of a collective 'Meh...'.

Definitely agree on that. I can't say that I've heard a single thing about either state or local races here.

Most likely especially stupid until the news media figures out how to deal with outright lies instead of sometime after the debate Candidate X Says this and Candidate Y says that or e.g. this Think Tank says that and the other Think Tank or Paper says that.

I first noticed the near complete absence of truth when Reagan and then Dubya just made up favorable statistics to back their claims during debates. At least they cited statistics. Of course with Reagan you never knew if it was his Alzheimer's talking.

Trump of course is quite willing to tell the most obvious lies knowing how hard it is for the media to deal with this. He may not even feel the need to cite phony staistics and just rely on simplistic statements like "Hillary is crooked or weak or sickly." Hillary is more typical of trying to look respectable and intelligent while as a politician spinning and deceiving but avoiding obvious bold faces lies.

That this probably does pass the Presidential Election in terms of interest says an awful lot about our country....

I have seen one or two, for Trump and Hillary but not many like in previous elections.
