I've been to Green Bay and there is no way it can support on its own anything larger than a minor league baseball team. The Packers aren't supported by Green Bay but by all of Wisconsin.
MLB would be smart to get a team down in mexico city but i doubt many players would want to play there since language barrier + real bad pollution there.
i think if the mlb were to expand, san juan should be their next destination..every game was pretty much a sell-out the season les expos de montreal played there
I wouldn't mind seeing LA get an NFL team, but that stadium shouldn't be paid for with one penny of government money. It's kind of nice to know there's at least one city secure enough in it's own image that it's citizens don't feel "threatened" by the loss of an NFL team to cut a $300-500 million check. Plus, I'd almost think the local media and retailers could already band together to finance their own stadium, considering how much money they could make if the team was ever successful: individual franchises get to keep all their local radio revenue, right?
mexico is a good place and people would go to the games, just see the regular season games of the NBA and NFL in Mexico and they were a good investment, and the teams they came are not the big markets one NBA: December 96 Houston vs Dallas NFL: October 06 San Francisco vs Arizona And about the MLB I dont know about the support here in Mexico city.
security issues in mexico. i dont want to deal with banditos. plus, i don't think i would want to get paid in pesos. Florida should move to Brookyln. Some other AL team should move to NJ. Some NL team should move to Boston.
I still can't believe the Marlins pulled off two WS championships in less than 15 years of existence. All the crappy MLB teams that don't spend money on players should be relocated to cities that do have fan support and a good stadium.
ABQ would support one I think. Don't know which sport though. Then again, maybe not. But it might be a good sub for the pro Vegas crowd.
Revisiting this question 16 years later. It's interesting how some things have changed and moved. Oklahoma, Brooklyn and Vegas both have pro teams now. With the insane growth in Austin I am shocked it doesn't have a pro team, at least hockey. I think it's outgrown the 'UT is the pro team' label. Throwing out another wild card here: El Paso definitely has the population to support a pro team, maybe a MLS team. I realize that corporate dollars are very important. It's a small media market but I could see a fanbase across the border.
Facepalm- right! I guess in the context of this thread MLS wasn't a factor when I started it. I still think Austin should have an NHL team.
