To summarize for people who don't want to watch the whole clip: Obrien: We always evaluate, we always do what's best for the team. Dez has had a great career. We always do what's best for the team.
Before the draft I would have said need as well. Now I'm not so sure if the Texans even want anymore receivers. I think they are fine now.
Dez got old, fast. His on-field "connection" with Romo was very, very special. Each had HOF potential and was derailed by injury. I hope it is just money keeping him unsigned, though. For Amendola to get paid and Dez not would show the Klan-underbelly of the NFL.
Oh, it's more than money. Go watch the latest season of "All or Nothing" and see what a cancerous pain in the ass Dez was. There's a reason the Cryboys didn't even ask him to take a pay cut or to restructure...they just wanted him gone. Don't want him anywhere NEAR the Texans...at ANY price.
If he's waiting on camps that means he wants to 1) have as much free time as possible and 2) wait for someone to get hurt and then charge a premium. Since he's looking for a "prove it" deal to bounce into his last big money contract, that means he wants volume. He doesn't care about winning. He wants to be the 1st option and get thrown 80+ balls his way. After that, he'll cash in with some dummies who overpay and totally phone it in before he retires. I can't say I disagree with this strategy in terms of looking to min-max things. But I feel like he may wish he were a Raven later on.
Dez is not going to get the money he wants. He will have to take a huge cut to keep playing. Injuries have taken their toll.
