Hey clutch fans bro's. My old folks use a water cooler in their home for drinking water. I think it's time time to get some new equipment. What's your advice? I know there are water coolers that have a pump so you don't have to top load it, but I know there's alternatives like brita filters. What do you suggest? Water cooler? Brita filter ? Alternate/fancier water coolers?
Water cooler or water filter? They are two different things. Any Reverse osmosis system is good enough for drinking water. They are easy to install for the most part if you are any kind of a DIY'er. Brita filters are cheap and easy to install, but they do not filter everything out including flouride.
RO system can significantly reduce fluoride and other minerals. Just be aware. I think frig with filter or an inline filter is plenty fine.
Inline filter on the supply line to the fridge using universal filters. The ones in modern appliances are proprietary and small.
I was in a similar position as you and picked this up nearly 4 years ago for my folks. Great purchase. They don't need the hot-water function, so the heater is kept off. You end up with one tap for room temp water and one for cold water. The filters last for around 6 months and are very easy to replace.
