I really believe the Rockets could've won it all 2 years ago with a better coach. The chemistry was good then. Dwight hadn't gone through menopause and Brewer was still a virgin. It was a good team with a good mix of talent.

Sounds like "freedom" is the key principle. It is definitely working right now.

However like they said, it wont beat "dicipline" in a 7 game series against elite teams.

Nah, we needed the type shooting we have this year for that. We're much closer now than these so called experts think. If we add can add a PJ Tucker and/or Wilson Chandler type we will be right there. Without D-Mo we probably need to add a skilled lowpost rim protecting big as well.

That's the thing, how many other elite teams are there? I count 3 GSW, Spurs and Cavs. Only 2 of which can keep up with us. Morey needs to make a couple of moves to get us back to the WCF at the minimum.

It would have If the NBA didn't suspend players for the Robert Horry incident.

One of these days they are going to stop laughing at the Rockets defense. Rockets are trending upward.

Yep. It's just lazy analysis. Same thing about Harden's defense and so-called selfishness.

wait a minute . . . this article says "A big reason for the Rockets' success is the heightened play of leading MVP candidate James Harden and the coaching wizardry of Mike D'Antoni, who is among the top early candidates for Coach of the Year."

How does that square with the theory floated in the other thread that all the Harden haters are knuckle-dragging conservatives who think he's a bearded terrorist along with King Hussein Obama?

    media conspiracy

Mike Dee'Antonio alert. I'm glad that now that Donatus Montieyunas is gone the media conspirators have another Rockets name they can mangle.

But that's the point. It's not just about the shooters. Better coaching helps players get better looks.

Golden state largely had the same team we used to roll over. In comes Kerr and those guys are a different team.

I agree we needed a real coach. However, good looks were not the issue. If that was all that's required, Brewer wouldn't still suck balls. Harden created open looks last year as well. The difference is we have shot makers now as opposed to bricklayers.

People talking about MDA not coaching defense. But the more and more I watch this team the more I think the media just takes certain quotes or a coach's absolute worse moment and makes it the center piece of their coverage of that particular coach (that they don't "favor"). MDA pays attention to defense and isn't NEARLY as bad as the media made him coming to the Rockets. If anything KEVIN MCHALE & JB should be labeled as bad defensive coaches. I have NEVER seen a team as bad defensively then last year's Rockets team.

In some ways I think MDA's biggest defensive flaw is his offense is so fast paced, it's hard to apply hardcore defensive principles. It's not necessarily him not caring about defensive

It's not just the freedom to take shots. This team has had the proverbial green light to let it fly for years now. That is evident by the fact that not one single coach ever told Corey Brewer or Josh Smith to stop shooting. The difference is having an actual quality offense to go along with the philosophy and legitimate outside shooters. Our offense in the past lacked movement, creativity, and continuity and it never made sense to have an offense so reliant on 3 points shots without reliable 3 point shooters.

We'll just keep winning, and the national media can keep making excuses. I see it as great motivation.
