Was there some change made to make the user names look bigger?

There has been a change. Now as a vision impaired person, I heartily approve. But I do understand how it can inadvertently affect screens. Every once in a while my screen resets and parts of my screen move off the visible page until I reboot.

 

Usernames always look much bigger on the internet. They are much smaller in real life.

 

They are back to normal, so I guess it's moot.

ATW, no matter what you do to it, it won't look bigger.

 

My users name is naturally big but you can try this if it helps.
