Was giving Kevin McHale that 3 year extension a mistake?

Yes it was a mistake. But still clutchfans hated me for saying that I didn't think he should be coach of the year awhile back. Go with your opinion and stick with it, clutchfans. He's not a great coach. They are winning because they are talented, not because of coaching.

 

I think its funny how alot of the same posters that constantly criticize Morey for making too many moves criticize the Rockets wanting stability at the coaching positions.

I too think that McHale is a subpar coach, but I think he has an excellent coaching staff around him. They make an impact (see JB convincing McHale this Summer to change their defensive philosophy), and I don't really have a huge problem with their style of play as long as it carries over into the postseason.

Would I have given him a 3 year extension.... No. I probably would have waited to see how they do this Spring and also surveyed the landscape of what what available this Summer first.

Do I understand that there was thoughtful decision making and a reason for doing so... Yes.

You can't have a freakin Boston Celtic coaching the Houston Rockets and expect to win a championship... Karma doesn't work like that. The universe is out of whack.

 

At this point I'm wishing that Morey would convince Jerry Sloan to come out of retirement and coach this team .... man talk about irony , I hated that guy for two decades.

 

This is irrelevant. It's Les' money and it doesn't count against the cap. The extension should have no bearing on his future employment, well, little bearing.
