I do hope that this galvanizes Americans to wrestle back control of their government though. I keep asking myself what it would mean if even this is not enough to bring about dramatic change - and not just in rhetoric like Obama. But actual drastic change to the budget and primary agenda-setting where the candidate is willing to risk his or her life for it. That’s the cost imo.

I would say that presidents don’t have a magic wand since the Supreme Court put in place by Reagan’s revolution took the power and put it in the hands of special interests and billionaires more specifically. The shift to oligarchy really started with Reagan even though Nixon was the initial problem child post WW2.

Presidents and Congress could get quite a bit done in that era between FDR and Nixon. Even Nixon setup the EPA and was able to do some things when he wasn’t doing a bunch of other corrupt crap.

I’d love to say that change can happen at the congressional level where the power really is to cut the knees off of the Supreme Court by passing laws that are written in a way the Supreme Court cannot rule over, or the state legislatures pass sweeping amendments to the constitution that brings specials interests down.

However if you look at what is likely to happen based on history of governments since mankind came about this planet, it’s much more likely a revolutionary figure comes in that flips the tables over and there’s a reset in power from that point on. That figure is much more likely to come faster and be more drastic to the system if the nation is plunged into economic chaos, war, and corruption. Something Trump seems to be hellbent on trying to create before his diabolical brain stops working and he finally leaves this earth for good.
