Thought this was well presented argument on difficulty of scoring now versus in the 80's and 90's. Put's more perspective into the difficulty faced Harden and this generation of superstars.

Didn't Jordan have a reputation of getting fouls just by being breathed on?

I remember this too. Jordan had slightly more FTAs then Harden and everyone complained about how you couldn't even touch him...hell, I remember him tripping over Rodmans foot and they called the foul on the trailing defender who was a good step behind him. But he's now the 'best ever' who always 'earned' his FTs...riiiiight.

Yes. lol. It's what cracks me up about some of the dinosaurs talking about yesteryear. And, yes, the old school back then said they had it tougher and played better basketball, too.

    Enjoy :

I have to post this quote from the late Chuck Daley, followed by another quote from Joe Dumars. To be clear, I haven't seen the videos. It's illustrates what Jordan faced, and it worked, until Phil Jackson came up with the Triangle. For those living under a rock the last few decades, it refers to the Jordan Rules:

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, then Detroit Pistons coach Chuck Daly described the Jordan Rules as:[3]

“ If Michael was at the point, we forced him left and doubled him. If he was on the left wing, we went immediately to a double team from the top. If he was on the right wing, we went to a slow double team. He could hurt you equally from either wing—hell, he could hurt you from the hot-dog stand—but we just wanted to vary the look. And if he was on the box, we doubled with a big guy.
The other rule was, any time he went by you, you had to nail him. If he was coming off a screen, nail him. We didn't want to be dirty—I know some people thought we were—but we had to make contact and be very physical.

When doing an ESPN 30 for 30, Joe Dumars said that,

“ It goes, the Da Vinci Code, the recipe to Coca-Cola, then the Jordan Rules."

Defense in the 1990’s was overall better than now. The game was a lot more physical and because zone defense was illegal, if you were not a competent man defender, you were very unlikely to play.

Offense now is overall better in the modern era. Players now are far better shooters and perimeter play is vastly better. Twenty five years ago the 5 positions on the court were set in stone and the roles for each was defined. The worst thing you could be labeled as, was a tweener.

I have preferred the 1990’s style of play to the current era. When the radical rule changes were approved I knew the game would become soft (it is very soft), but I overall under estimated how much the perimeter shooting would improve.

There are some guys in the modern era that would struggle 25 years ago, but overall the modern era would beat the prior era head to head.
