Texas' roster is simply washed out and depleted. I am wondering how many wins they will be able to squeak out in Coach Strong's first year. The UT faithful better have some patience because it is going to take at least 2-3 years to get back to winning 10+ games.

Fortunately the whole Big12 sucks, which makes it a bit easier. For all the griping about Texas' crappy recruiting class this year, it was still considered the best in the conference. If you take that and actually coach them up instead of down, they should be able to do decently well soon enough.

I think he'll be coaching again this time next year. My money is on Nebraska.

Mack Brown is the last guy I'd want to listen to as a studio analyst. Goodness, he needs to just go and be gone.

His twitter is painful to read. He likes to do the Q&A but won't ever give a straightforward answer.

    "What your favorite NFL team?"
    "Any team with Longhorns!"

    "Spurs or Thunder?"
"Spurs are from TX but KD is a Longhorn!"

Then the obligatory Rose Bowl/VY mention here and there...

At least he'll have some football insight to add. That is if he isn't too scared to offend someone with the occasional negative comment.

Doesn't ESPN already own Texas athletics though? So the paychecks just come from the same place?

Texas is in the college world series. That's something to be happy about.

They're not in yet. They have to beat UH 2 out of 3 this weekend to make it to Omaha.

Heh - recruiting rankings. Who was kicking ass in the recruiting rankings 2,3, 4 years ago? Where did it get them?

Recuriting rankings don't really mean anything when your 4 and 5 star prospects flame out (such as getting picked up for aggravated assault).

The other problem is that it's simply not enough to just get the best players and outtalent everybody anymore, as Mack Brown found out.

Where there used to be X# of high level players in the state of Texas, due to population growth and the evolution of the HS game, now there are 2 or 3 times X, and it's the same in a number of other southern & western areas (though over the long term, this may decline due to the head injury issue and concern by parents).
