Hope this hasn't been posted yet... According to the media photos, here are the numbers the Rox will be wearing: 0 - Keith Langford 1 - T-Mac 2 - Luther 3 - Sura 4 - Stro 5 - Juwan 7 - Wesley 8 - Anderson 9 - Glover 11- Yao 20 - Barry 25 - Moochie 35 - Baxter 40 - Bowen 44 - Chuck Hayes 55 - Mutombo
this probably is a silly question but ... is there a rule/s regarding what numbers can be picked? why Mutombo is #55? or Chuck Hayes #44? what happened to those other numbers? can a player pick whatever # he likes?
I believe that a player can choose any number as long as another current team mate doesn't already have it or if the number has not been retired by a former member of the organization.
Traditionally, most players numbers wore # 55 or below to make it easier for the refs to identify the players by using their fingers to signal to the scorers table. Dennis Rodman broke that tradition with # 99. I'm not sure if he was the first or how many other players are using numbers higher than 55, but I don't think there are many.
thanks The Ming Dynasty and nmercer. now that you mentioned it it makes sense to use #'s 55 and less. can't imagine the ref trying to signal a foul by #99. maybe they don't.
Yeah, TYPICALLY you won't see numbers above 5 in either didgit of a jersey number. And that's cause it's easier for the refs to flash the numbers with their hands when they call fouls. However, if you're a single didgit number, you can go higher. It just gets confusing when you have a 45 and a 9 on the same team. Who's he calling the foul on? 45 or 9?
Off the top of my head: Shawn Bradley was 76, like his height George Muresan was 77, also like his height Ron Artest was once 91 Multiple players with 00, which stands for one-hundred
Pretty sure that Skip is going to go ahead and stick the number 12 he had in Toronto unless he wants to leave that all behind him and get a new number.
