Ukraine and the US already have treaties in place for cooperation between law enforcement agencies that does not require the president's direction or engagement. The president doesn't dictate specific individuals to investigate especially political rivals. That is the job career non political prosecutors and investigators. His source of Hunter Biden to start caring about the issue didn't come from his own cabinet, intelligence briefings etc. It came from a Sean Hannity segment. Following that, he didn't send federal government representatives but his personal lawyer to Ukraine to have him cooperate with the Ukrainian government. All those signs point to personal political reasons to investigate Biden, not official US policy. This would be equivalent of Obama directing Bill Maher to a foreign country to persuade the government to investigate Mitt Romney because he heard of some rumors of Romney doing bad things from a Huff Po article and then threatening said country with removal of needed military aid and he did it during the year before the election knowing that Mitt Romney was going to be his primary challenger. That is pretty much what Trump did.
Other than the sad display of political stunt of a few dozen of congressional House Republicans physically obstructing the process, I haven’t seen any defense yet.
There isn't one anymore, they're left with process objections. The problem is that other than at the margins, process objections don't really work with the public. The Democrats have had a (well-grounded, unlike the Republicans) 10 -year process objection to Moscow Mitch setting the Senate on fire - it hasn't really gotten them anywhere, though openly connecting him with his Russian backers seems to be a bit more effective recently. Mostly because it tends to connect the process with the substance of Mitch working against America
The thing that disrupts the argument that Trump just wanted to root out corruption is that what they wanted from Zelensky was not an actual investigation it was a PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT of an investigation. Ultimately they couldn't have cared less whether anything ever came of an investigation, as proven by the fact one was already done and they don't care about it. What they wanted was a public announcement to weaponize, much like they did with Comey's announcement.
So what specific law was broken and where is the evidence for said law? Also there is no reason a president cannot ask about white house affairs.
If I didn't cite a specific law, do you think a president extorting a foreign country for personal reasons is a abuse of power? Yes or no.
Not only is it illegal for a sitting president to solicit political aid from a foreign government, Trump and his team knew it. thats why trump had Guliani doing it that’s why people sounded the alarm and expressed concern that’s why they took the unprecedented step of moving the transcript to a different server that why the WH is obstructing

The good ol Mueller defense. Ehhh he intended to do it. It'd be bad if the people he ordered to do it did it, but they didn't... SO WHO CARES
what even worse is that trump administration has cut funding to fight international corruption by over 40 percent. Ok mr. president if you are against corruption as you say. Why cut funding fighting it? He so full of ****. Why do people defend this man. I bet if Trump light the original constitution on fire some of base would still support him.
Where have all the defenders gone? I thought we would hear something like, "hey that's not the law." Or, "hey that's just a person interpreting the law." Or "hey that Weintraub is a partisan hack." Or at least, "well it might be against the law, but it's not an impeachable offense."
Yes. I thought they would throw in a few 'just like the Russia investigation' while they are at it. But now, the facts are out. Trump broke the law. There was quid pro quo, and the evidence proves that and is there for all to see. Of course Trump's supporters still want him as President because they care more about sticking it to the libs than the law. Or they don't want to admit that they were wrong about Trump. So, they are just silent. They have been exposed and have nothing left to say. It would be easier and more honest to just withdraw their support for Trump, but they won't.
