http://www.tmz.com/2015/08/20/nbas-ty-lawson-props-from-judge-in-dui-case/ Some more good news for embattled NBA star Ty Lawson ... who just got some dap from the judge presiding over his DUI case in Colorado. Long story short ... the Houston Rockets star entered rehab last month following a DUI arrest in Los Angeles .... which came 6 months after a DUI arrest in Denver. There was a hearing in his Colorado case today -- and in the judge's notes, he wrote that Lawson has been making "excellent progress" in the case. Lawson's challenge will be to keep his nose clean in the coming weeks and months. There's no room for error ... considering a judge has ordered him to install an alcohol monitoring system in his home to make sure he stays sober. As for the L.A. DUI -- a hearing is scheduled for next week.
The Rockets need to invest $$ to hire a shadow to keep Lawson out of trouble, much like the Cowboys did with Dez Bryant.
A suspension that long would be shocking. 1 DUI is worth 3 games. No way they make this more than 3x that.
Here is every "driving under the influence" charge I could find since the 2001 season and how many games each person was suspended: Greg Monroe - "Driving while physically impaired" 2014, 2 game suspension PJ Tucker - DWI 2014, 3 game suspension Devin Ebanks - DWI 2013, 2 game suspension Jason Kidd - DWI 2013, 2 game suspension Al Jefferson DWI 2010, 2 game suspension Dorell Wright - DUI 2010, 2 game suspension Kenny Hasbrouck - DWI 2010, 2 game suspension Zach Randolph - DWI 2009, 2 game suspension Jason Richardson - DUI 2009, 2 game suspension Gabe Pruitt - DUI 2009, 2 game suspension Carmelo Anthony - DWI 2008, 2 game suspension Eric Musselman - DWI 2007, 2 game suspension Jerry Buss - Drunk Driving 2007, 2 game suspension JB Bickerstaff - DWI 2006, 2 game suspension Zydrunas Ilgauskas - Drunk driving 2002, 1 game suspension Clifford Robinson - DUI 2002, 1 game suspension Derrick Coleman - Drunk driving 2001, 1 game suspension Michael Smith - DWI 2001, 1 game suspension Stephon Marbury - "Extreme driving under the influence and spent 10 days in jail in 2001, 1 game suspension
Seems about right. Looks as if a 2 game suspension is the standard for a DUI charge. So 2 games per DUI for Lawson, plus one extra game for it being his second offense seems reasonable.
fwiw: The judge did not write "excellent progress", it was notes submitted from the rehab facility. The judge isn't judging progress right now. He's judging renewed compliance to the terms of his bail that Lawson violated with the second DUI. Haven't confirmed any news on rulings made by the judge today. Apparently no plea bargain or arraignment hearing, still. Would like to know whether defense attorney or DA was asking for another delay or pressing for an arraignment date.
From bmd's list, how many of those players went to jail. For Ty, if there is a previous DUI from Missouri that he said on record during his Denver DUI arrest, then that triggers manditory jail time in CO and CA. However, still no confirmation that a MO DUI happened. The arrest in NC is not a qualifying prior DUI in either CO or CA, since he blew .02.
Please all be sorted by pre season - PLEASE. Same as the D Mo back injury. Want no distractions coming in to the season. It's too hot of a race in the West to spot other teams a head start. Need to come out rolling.
Lol at the Starbury 1 game suspension for an offense that carried 10 days jail With Ty we know he will get a suspension, I care more for his long-term health and progress on the floor to ensure we get the best and healthiest both physically and mentally out of him. He is an all-star caliber player at his best and we need this from him to be a championship team.
not until he and his attorney accept a plea deal. Until then, he's innocent. NBA will probably act fast as each DUI case is closed. So maybe expect one suspension for Denver, and then later another for CA.
