Why does trump hate our American farmers?

USTR Office sends out confusing and unclear press release that they are delaying some tariffs until December 15. They committed to providing details including list of products later today (you'd think they'd bother to do this before making the announcement, but we're talking about the trump admin after all).

trump's right wing supporters are unhappy:

context: the quote attributed to JFK's Secretary of State Dean Rusk, intended to show how Kruschev/Russia blinked during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Later the validity of the statement was called to question since the Russian ship had already been returning to its home port.

The sovereign, independent nation of Taiwan loves to buy those weapons.

I am not sure where this idea that the USA manufactures nothing came from.

The USA is the second largest manufacturer in the world.

Manufacturing is a smaller percentage of our total output than a country like China (which is generally a good thing) but the USA is a manufacturing giant.

China would likely suffer far worse than the USA long term in a trade war, however the Chinese people are also capable of enduring suffering at a rate that Americans are not. Americans have been and are the most well off and insulated country in the world..... it wasn't long ago that the Chinese were dying in the street from starvation at the hands of that moron Mao.

I wonder how Hong Kong feels right about now? China likes to suck everyone down into the mud with them.

Trump might have leaped before he looked.

Farmers want to know why Trump listens to "US business leaders" and not them.

Because he knows farmers will vote for him even if they go bankrupt.

    how so ?

do you not understand this "tell" from the USTR

during the 1950s and 1960s, some 3 generations ago, when china had no trade w the US, and did not own any US treasuries

the repeated seesaw actions of the stock market , since early 2018, suggest that Trump is manipulating it

Yes I understand this "tell".... and I also understand the incompetence of the people in the White House.

I have a masters in economics.

It was later than the 1950's and 1960's.... through the 1970's China dealt with strong economic issues..... as a culture they are aware of the struggles they have endured, and quite a few people in China have actually lived through the changes.

The purchase of US treasuries has only made it less in the interest of China to engage in a trade war with the USA. If China wants to flood the market and lose their substantial investments, then that is suicide on their part. It is also telling that they choose to buy US treasuries.

The United States is far better positioned to survive a trade war with China than the other way around. Personally I think it is foolish to immediately jump to a full out trade war by either country. The American people IMO would not tolerate it though, because unlike China, the USA is not ruled by a dictator for life and would not accept the sacrifices that the Chinese already are making on a day to day basis.

Why delay the tariff? Why do we not want billions and billions of Chinese tariff money for Christmas?

This. Nostalgic manufacturing still makes a lot of goods, albeit with significantly less people.

Instead of folks focusing on nostalgia... how about they focus on the new industries that the US is utterly dominant in. It’s amazing what % of the world uses our operating systems, not just PCs but mobile. China finally introduced their own viable mobile OS in 2019.

then you should have no problem elaborating your position; why are you unwilling / unable to elaborate ?

ur thinking of the great economic folly, the Great Leap Forward program, from 1958 to 1962, when food production decreased.

the GLF was shelfed in the early 1960s, replaced w a new plan that entailed trading w other countries, (France, Canada, etc).
by the time of Nixon's visit to China in 1972, Chinese were relatively well-fed

I wouldn't be so sure of that, if you actually listen to them.
