Protectionist policies are a tax on the consumers.

AMERICANS end up paying more for this.

And that's before even considering retaliation from other countries which will hurt American industries.

Trade wars hurt both American consumers and industries. Idiot Trump supporters lol.

How does this work when China dumps steel on our market?

Our steel based manufactured good are cheaper to consumers. Our steel companies have to downsize and become weaker. China eats the loss but grows its domestic steel industries. When China owns the international steel market, they can stop dumping.

Targeted tariffs are meant to curtail bad behavior from our trading partners.

You should be an economic advisor to the president. He’s been looking for one, any one, to agree with him that tariffs are good and trade wars are better! The two of you can play in the big trucks together on the weekend!

    Do you even logic?

Why would there be tariffs if US steel is cheaper than imported steel?

Who do you think actually pays for the tariffs? CHAI-NAH! MEXICO! as Trump would say it, lol...

No, American consumers ultimately pay for it.

And American workers pay for it if American Steel is seriously downsized, right or wrong.

The American Steel Industry may have poor manufacturing practices and tariffing their competition would not be the right move.

But if China is subsidizing their steel industry losses, that is China starting a trade war.
