Honestly, it will be really interesting to watch the CPI in the run up to fall elections. My guess is it won't escalate that much by October. The trade war -- whatever it's purpose? -- is well timed in that sense. Takes headlines away from Mueller probe and other ongoing investigations, I suppose, and won't cost him Congressional seats too badly in 2018 election. CPI then takes off in early 2019. We'll C.

Higher inflation may already be impacting consumer spending...

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...ending-lags-forecasts-inflation-tops-fed-goal

Seems that spending is starting to falter after a hot start and inflation may require two more interest rate hikes this year - further "flattening" the yield curve.

I had poked holes in Sweet Lou's blanket claims----providing > 11 specific eg that contradict his myopic / perfunctory claim----
and then proceeded to challenge Sweet Lou to cite one eg in support of his claim.

still waiting for Sweet Lou's response.

Naming a few companies spending more doesn't describe the entire company no more than the fact that one volcano is erupting doesn't mean ALL of them are!

You're logic is awful, your attitude is juvenile. You don't deserve a response if you keep making idiotic remarks.

There are only two American states out of 50 – Michigan and Vermont – where trade with Canada exceeds 10% of their annual economic output at around 15% ... other 48 states range between 1% to 9%.

49% of Ontario's gross domestic product depends on trade with the United States ... Quebec 23% ... Alberta 31% ... Canada is going to lose ... and lose very badly.

Both myself and President Trump agree that free trade with no tariffs would be the ideal scenario.

Perhaps you missed the fact that the tariffs Trump imposed were retaliatory. Canada and other nations already had tariffs and barriers on US goods.

And then then the trade partners retaliated again back at us. Hence, r****ded policy.

Using your logic, a rape victim should refrain from kicking their attacker in the balls because the rapist may get angrier and then beat them up.

We were getting taken advantage of. Trump gave them a taste of their own medicine. The fact that they then retaliated against the retaliatory tariffs does not mean they are in the right. They were taking advantage of us.

They need us more than we need them. If you're really worried about temporary price hikes, the effects of which will never even be apparent to most, in a trade tiff in which we ultimately cannot lose, then you're not seeing the bigger picture.

Just for the record, trade isn't a zero-sum game. It is a mistake to think that for every winner there is an equal and opposite loser.

And just because someone loses, it doesn't mean someone else wins - it is possible for everybody to lose simultaneously as in this situation.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the nation’s largest business group and customarily a close ally of President Donald Trump’s Republican Party, is launching a campaign on Monday to oppose Trump’s trade tariff policies.

The new campaign is an aggressive effort by the business lobbying giant. Using a state-by-state analysis, it argues that Trump is risking a global trade war that will hit the wallets of U.S. consumers. eg, the Chamber said

    Texas could see $3.9 billion worth of exports targeted by retaliatory tariffs;
Tennessee, $1.4 billion; and South Carolina, $3 billion.

“The administration is threatening to undermine the economic progress it worked so hard to achieve,” said Chamber President Tom Donohue . “We should seek free and fair trade, but this---amounting to shooting ourselves in the foot---is just not the way to do it.”

The fact that the US is able to succeed in an inequitable trade situation does not make the conditions fair. It is possible to win even if your opponent is cheating. Doesn’t make it right.

    or
