Teachers work is also different. In an office worker can go grab water when they want, take 5 to check an email, go the bathroom whenever they would like to throughout the day. If they get back five minutes late from lunch once a month or so that's fine. Teachers don't have the luxury in their work days. They have to be watching like a hawk in 30 different directions or kids will hurt themselves, their classmates, property etc. While they are working there is no downtime. It only changes when they have a music teacher, testing proctors, or something like that.

In my wife's district, you cannot leave a class unattended. So the only break she actually gets is a lunchtime. It's 30 minutes, but you have to take and collect your kids so it ends up being more like 20 minutes.

I mentioned this earlier. The starting pay is actually pretty decent, but the raises are deplorable. After 24 years AND a masters degree, my wife only makes about 5-7K more than a starting teacher. That's really sad. As a matter of fact, I started at my current job making the same rate as her 11 years ago. I now make about 12K more than she does

Okay after a Master's thats bad. The principals make a nice salary i think

Here is the issue with a grad degree in schools

Youre still a teacher unless you move to administration. You bring the same value. Youre teaching the same subject to the same kids
