The other Trade Rumors thread is hard to read. Let's see if anyone can get close to what the Astros actually do Post up to 3 trades you think are actually possible by Tuesday (Astros trades). Let's see if anyone can actually get close to something we really do
1. Jose Urquidy to Toronto for Gabriel Moreno 2. Jake Odorizzi to St. Louis for Leonardo Bernal 3. Luis Garcia, Hunter Brown and Shawn Dubin to Cincy for Luis Castillo, Brandon Drury and Bryce Bonin Rotation Verlander Castillo Framber Javier Bielak/McCullers Moreno and Drury would be a major upgrade offensively
David Hensley, Corey Julks, and Jimmy Endersby for Josh Bell. Luis Garcia, Jordan Brewer, and Tyler Whitaker for Luis Castillo. Pete Solomon and Alex Santos for Jonah Heim.
I know Click hasn't pulled off a big trade yet...but I have a feeling we are going to have at least one major one in the next several days
Cerny, Malendez and Solomon to the Nationals for Bell (Signs new deal) Yuli to the Bench Urquidy McCormick and Forrest Whitley to the Orioles for Mullins and Lopez Garcia, Leon, Dubin, Perez, Bermudez and Ivey for Castillo and Jackson Miller And a throw in trade Odorizzi and Maton to the Cards for Burleson and Hence
Odorizzi to Twins for Edouard Julien (Random minor leaguer in Twins system) Whitley, Yainer Diaz, and Joe Perez for Josh Bell Enmanuel Valdez for Felix Bautista (Orioles Heat Out of Pen with 6 more years of control)
Depends on one's view of Diaz, IMO. I needed a trade to increase 40-man roster spots this season to cover Bell/Hunter Brown and spots during the offseason to prevent losing anyone in Rule 5. Also, I get impression Astros want a better defensive catcher than Diaz and will want to trade him while his value is high. This trade gets Astros talent this year without giving up anyone that I expect to be contributors soon for the Astros. If the Astros can get someone better than Bell for this package, I'm for it. I expect Click to be offering the Diaz plus a couple of lottery tickets to a lot of teams...just not sure who to put on the other end. I'm generally really against trading guys that are helping MLB team or could be really soon.
So you propose the team give up 3 starting pitchers and get 1 back? In this scenario the team has 4 established SP until Lance is activated from the IL in a little over 3 weeks. Brown can take that spot but it's hard to defend on a prospect in that spot. And Lance will likely be babies the rest of the season. By the time the playoffs get here the entire staff is gassed just like 2019 and 2021 and another year goes by without a World Series ring. In order to keep the pitchers reasonably fresh, at least 1 of the pitchers traded away in these scenarios needs to be kept.
I'm 2023 I would be ecstatic with that rotation. In 2022: Verlander being very careful of rest/innings Brown having no MLB experience Lance returning from injury and no idea how effective he will be, how many innings. Or recovery time he will need. To me this feels like an exhausted bullpen waiting to happen
I do not like those trades involving Astros starters at all. That said, I don't fear Dusty's managing enough to worry about pen (edit, during regular season) with Castillo, Framber, Verlander, and Javier starting even if Brown falters. Weird agreeing on disliking a trade, but for completely different reasons.
Josh Bell and Scott Barlow are going to be Astros come the first week of August. Those are our only 2 additions. Bell signs with us in the off season after helping us to a WS title. You'll be amazed at how little we give up. Click, click, boom.
Agree and I don’t want to go into the playoffs with question marks in the rotation We need to get better, not better in one spot and worse in another
Whitley/Cerny for Bell Odorizzi/Solomon/Santos for Moreno Leon, McCormick for the Marlins minor league outfielder. (can't remember his name)
They strikeout on Bell and turn their attention to corner of. Trade with Cubs for Happ and catcher.....Yan Gomes. Trade with Tigers for Soto. They end up trading Urquidy for him. Late in the deadline Astros acquire a pitcher from the Reds....everyone is excited because we all think it's Castillo. Nope, it's for Tyler Mahle lol. Urquidy replacement. But looking at his numbers, don't seem great. Is he another Odorizzi?????
