What exactly does it mean for a player to announce their retirement?

I think that means they become eligible for the pension plan. They have to formerly retire to start collecting.

If he leaves a door open for whatever league on the planet, it's not retirement per se

He got to the second round so he good now. If not for a few lucky bounces he could have gone out with a ring.

"I felt like I had more to give in my role than what was given to me. As a competitor, you don't want to feel like you are settling. I felt like I was settling over the last three years. I felt I could give a lot more than I was able to. I can't allow myself to go through that again."

I have no ill will towards him - he was great when healthy here but he also wasnt healthy that often and dogged it when he wasnt

though it does suck to have come back and be a free throw away from finally winning a ring and then nothing once again.

Yeah, but the competitive fire still burns inside him. Him not being happy riding the pine, wanting to be on the floor and contributing. How are you going to hate on a man who decided to retire, to be happy?

I was translating what he was saying.

translating = not hating, just changing language to allow others to fully understand the meaning of the statement

hating = i hate this tmac guy, he sucks
