http://autoweek.com/article/car-news/toyota-dumps-scion Spoiler RIP Scion TC and the drivers who think they have a sports car.
That's a shame; I had Scion in my short list for my wife's next car. Of course, I don't buy new so maybe this is good. Anyone pay attention to how Saturn prices dropped after their brand was canceled?
Scion was a feeble attempt by Toyota to attract younger buyers. They really need to go back to the drawing board to figure out how to get younger people from buying their car, Toyota is a very boring brand with boring car models.
I test drove a manual Scion FRS recently. Really fun car to drive. Decided against it, but it was real fun to drive.
I drive an 8 year old TC that I bought new out of college. It's been incredibly reliable and that's what I care about most since I knew I would be keeping it for a long time. I wouldn't buy another one, mostly because I'll be able to afford a higher class of vehicle, but for a 16-25 year old these were good cars. They are simply rebranding most of their models to Toyota, otherwise it's the same car. Only eliminating the Tc according to the article.
It seems like every other car I see on the freeway is a Camry. Definitely a huge market for "boring" dependable cars.
The younger demo is buying the IS, what do they care? Does it really make a difference which profit center the revenue is coming from?
