BLM supporters got plaaaaaayed. The video proves it. No racial motivation, uncooperative and drugged up Floyd, cause of death was not asphyxiation or suffocation. Taken for a ride by the media and politically-motivated actors who knew they could trick this emotional crowd. Used as unsuspecting pawns to gin up outrage in an election year.

Now they refuse to admit their error -- too embarrassing for them.

If you watch the video and decide race had no issue, (lulz) whatever, fine. But if you watch it (and countless others) and somehow do not support police reform, you might be incapable of independent thinking.

Very few police interactions are negative. 99%+ are positive. You can't cherry-pick the bad ones and conclude that the police are in need of reform. This is so incredibly basic, I can't believe I have to explain it. Look at the statistics.

The same people who say, "don't judge a race by the bad actors!" are the same ones seeking to defund the police and smear them based on a very tiny percentage of bad actors in the police force.

Do you know what is in desperate need of reform? THE INNER CITY. High crime, poor education, high unemployment, weak family structures. That's the root cause of all of this. It's not racism. The USA is the most diverse, welcoming country in the world.

From the beginning, it was always a mistake to assume that the entire event consisted of the police mistreating George Floyd and that once the rest of the body cam footage was released we'd have proof. I hope this doesn't hurt the prosecution's case against Chauvin. I don't see how it could, but who knows what the jury could be convinced of with this new footage, a toxicology report, and an overly ambitious murder charge. (Don't remember the details of the charge, but I remember thinking it was appropriate.)

Yes the footage does help Lane and Keung a little. It doesn't really change anything though regarding Chauvin and that the Lane and Keung didn't really do anything to stop Chauvin doesn't help their case though.

Keep in mind there is other evidence against Chauvin that he might be a racist. He has had a record of complaints brought against him and also according to a coworker and the owner at El Nuevo Rodeo Chauvin was hostile to black patrons.

As stated though he is not being tried for a hate crime. That evidence could go to motive and also the punishment phase. Nothing in this video contradicts the idea that he murdered Floyd. If anything this shows that this wasn't accidental considered Keung informed him that he couldn't find a pulse while he continued the technique.

Lane did ask Chauvin to change position while Floyd was restrained. Chauvin took charge as the senior officer.

This was brought up before by Lane's attorney so the video doesn't change that. It's a good argument for Lane to make but that he didn't do more when he knew his senior LEO was doing something wrong still doesn't look good.

There were hearings today for the four former LEO. Some of the prosecutors including the Hennepin county prosecutor have been removed from the case. Also there is still discussion of moving the trial and the jurors will likely remain anonymous. Also got a preview of the defense that they will say that Floyd died of an overdose.

George Floyd killing: Judge disqualifies Freeman from cops' trial
    Jon Collins and Brandt Williams
    Minneapolis
    September 11, 2020 4:00 a.m.

A Hennepin County judge on Friday disqualified four Hennepin County prosecutors, including county attorney Mike Freeman, from participating in the case of four former police officers charged in the death of George Floyd.

Judge Peter Cahill kicked the prosecutors off the case for meeting privately with the medical examiner to discuss Floyd’s autopsy results. The judge called the move “sloppy” but said they could be called as witnesses.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office, which is leading the prosecution, asked the judge to reconsider. Two of the banned attorneys, Amy Sweasy and Patrick Lofton, successfully prosecuted former Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor last year in the killing of 911 caller Justine Ruszczyk.

    No decision on moving trial
Floyd died on May 25 after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd’s neck for about nine minutes as the man lay handcuffed and face down on the ground after being arrested for allegedly trying to pass a counterfeit $20 bill at a nearby store.

Chauvin and the other officers at the scene — Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao — were all fired from the force. Chauvin faces murder and manslaughter charges. Lane, Kueng and Thao are charged with aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter.

Attorneys representing the men have argued against a joint trial and requested that the trial be moved outside the county.

Cahill didn’t rule on either of those motions.

He suggested the court send a questionnaire to prospective jurors to help figure out whether there was any truth to defense attorneys’ arguments that the jury pool in Hennepin County had been tainted by pre-trial publicity of Floyd’s death.

Robert Paule, attorney for ex-officer Tou Thao, said he was concerned Minneapolis residents fear the impact their verdict would have on themselves and their communities, considering the recent “lawlessness.” The judge countered that there isn’t a county or state in the country that hadn’t heard about Floyd’s killing.

Defense attorneys have argued in filings that Floyd died of an overdose, not because Chauvin was kneeling on his neck. All four defendants have also asked for charges to be dismissed. Cahill said he’ll decide on those motions based on the legal briefs that have already been filed.

Cahill also denied defense requests for evidence about Floyd’s involvement in a 2007 armed robbery in Texas and a 2019 overdose after a confrontation with police.

Any information about whether Floyd served as a police informant or had gang affiliations would not be relevant to the case if the responding officers weren’t aware at the time they encountered him, the judge added.

    Prosecutors want four tried together
Prosecutors have proposed trying all four officers together. They argue in a court filing that the charges are similar, eyewitnesses and family members would be traumatized from multiple trials, and that the defenses needed by defendants are not antagonistic.

That would apply in cases where the defendants are forced to blame one another and the jury is forced to decide between them.

Attorneys for the defendants argued that their defenses could be antagonistic, because Lane, Kueng and Thao could argue that Chauvin committed a crime on his own. Prosecutors responded in another filing that the officers worked in close concert at the scene.

On Friday, the judge said the issue of whether officers will be tried together at one trial needed further consideration.

He asked defense attorneys to factor in a court document filed by prosecutors late Thursday that asked to admit as evidence incidents in which ex-officer Derek Chauvin was involved as a police officer. Prosecutors discovered them through use-of-force incidents recorded by the Minneapolis Police Department.

Prior to the hearing, St. Paul attorney Paul Applebaum, who isn’t involved in the cases, said defense attorneys would have difficulty getting the cases separated, partly because it would be difficult for Chauvin to blame the other officers for the charges of murder and manslaughter against him, but also because of the burden of holding four separate trials.

“They’re going to think, ‘I can’t sit through four of these things, and I can’t drag witnesses back four times, and I can’t drag toxicologists back four times,” Applebaum said. “It’s just going to be too unwieldy for the court to do that.”

    Jury may be sequestered
Cahill on Friday said he was leaning toward a jury anonymous to the public that may be sequestered at a hotel during jury deliberations.

The decision was partly prompted by the number of people contacting him personally to express opinions about the case, and was bolstered after each defense attorney reported that they had received threatening phone calls and emails since taking on their clients.

Attorney Eric Nelson, who is representing Chauvin, said he received 1,000 emails in the first week, and that he’s received threats against himself, his family and colleagues.

Cahill said he plans to release juror names after the trial is done, “with the only exception that if there is civil unrest, I’m not going to release the names during civil unrest.”

Prosecutors oppose making the jurors anonymous.

Cahill said in court that he’s leaning toward a plan that will keep the jury away from the public, having them drive to an undisclosed location and be escorted to a private room at the courthouse by sheriff’s deputies.

Defense attorneys for the officers have also filed motions asking for charges to be dismissed. Cahill has noted that motions to dismiss will be decided after briefs are filed and not argued at Friday’s hearing.

Prosecutors have not yet filed a response to Chauvin’s motion to dismiss the charges.

The parties will also argue over evidence the defense has requested from the state.

Defense attorneys for the officers asked whether Floyd was a confidential informant or if he had gang affiliations. The prosecution's response in a filing was "the victim is not on trial here."

The court will also consider how to safely hold a high-profile criminal case during a pandemic. A coalition of media organizations, including MPR News, has pushed for more access to hearing and evidence.

Defense attorneys have supported efforts to allow the proceedings to be streamed, although Ellison’s office has expressed concern about the impact that audio and visual coverage of the hearings could have on witnesses and how lawyers present evidence.

Thao, Kueng and Lane are free on bail as the cases proceed. Chauvin is being held at Oak Park Heights correctional facility.

The trial is scheduled to start in March. Cahill estimated it could last six weeks, including two for jury selection.

Protesters demand justice for George Floyd

    Whole world saw’
A peaceful protest that morning drew hundreds of people outside the Family Justice Center on Friday morning. Authorities shut down the block in front of the building and set up barricades and fencing.

Before the hearing began, protesters staged a “die-in” demonstration this in front of the Family Justice Center, where the hearing is being held.

Jae Yates of the group Twin Cities Coalition 4 Justice 4 Jamar said the defense’s request for the change of venue is to seek a whiter, more conservative jury who will side with the former cops.

"But the whole world saw what they did to Mr. Floyd, and the whole world is outraged,” Yates said. “We demand that these trials stay here, where they have to face the wrath of the communities they have terrorized."

Elizer Darris of the ACLU of Minnesota said the community demands justice. “Is a panel of white jurors better positioned than those of us, who live right here? Are they better positioned to judge this than us?” Darris asked, to a chorus of “Hell no!”

As the attorneys and defendants left the court building after the hearing, they were surrounded by protesters angry about Floyd’s killing.

The crowd screamed at and surrounded attorney Earl Gray and Lane as they walked to their vehicle a block away. The crowd parted for the vehicle, but at least one person punched it as the driver pulled away.

Following the hearing Friday, Floyd family attorney Ben Crump dismissed defense arguments that drugs in Floyd’s system were responsible for his death.

"They are trying to say the knee on his neck for 8:46 was reasonable, they are trying to claim some asinine theory about an overdose,” Crump told reporters. “I want to be clear about this, the only overdose that killed George Floyd was a overdose of excessive force and racism by the Minnesota, Minneapolis police department."

Going to be hard to prove overdose when neither autopsy came to that conclusion. Even still, that doesn't excuse Chauvin or the other officers from restraining him and not assisting him

Minneapolis is back on edge. Last night a lot of reports about protesters loading up on rocks and many local businesses were very worried. I almost had to go out again to help reassure some of the local businesses. My neighborhood network is blowing up this morning over reports of carjackings happening last night and even this morning in day light. None of them have been verified but a few weeks ago there was a car jacking in the parking lot of a local business of Somali elder.

In the meantime another neighborhood group had a protest last week against a temporary 3rd Precinct.

Derek Chauvin was released on bail today and there have been protest here in Minneapolis tonight with the National Guard also out. There is a protest still outside the 5th Precinct but it looks much smaller than the protests following George Floyd's death. FYI the weather is unusually mild with clear skies and temps in the 70's.

The local news here is showing some body cam video from an earlier arrest of George Floyd that Lane is trying to get introduced as evidence for the defense.

They have not shown the whole video but according to the description they are reporting the video is an arrest of Floyd in a car. In the video he acts similar to the video of his arrest in front of Cup Foods with him not cooperating, but not violently resisting. He also cries and calls for his mama. He was admitted he had a pill in his mouth and a bag of pills, I missed what they were, was found in the car.

Here is the link to the local station but I don't see a specific link to this story. If they post one and/or the video will post a link.

Also today would've been George Floyd's 47th birthday.

Did they know how Floyd had acted in this previous arrest when they ended up killing him that day? Even if they did, a knee on someone’s neck for 9 minutes isn’t justifiable. I have no idea how any judge could find that evidence relevant.

What, because he cried and yelled for his mom during a previous arrest, it can be argued that him doing the same thing while having a knee on his neck shouldn’t be taken seriously by the cops? That could be viewed as “Floyd just being Floyd?”

I don't know if the arresting LEO knew about Floyd's previous arrest. The only thing I've seen is that Lane is trying to get this introduced as evidence.

Also I still haven't seen the stand alone video posted and I haven't seen other coverage of this previous video on other news sources.

A Boogaloo Boy from Texas has been arrested for shooting at the 3rd Precinct during the night that the precinct burned.

    https://www.mprnews.org/story/2020/...oo-bois-member-with-rioting-in-floyd-protests

Feds charge alleged 'Boogaloo Bois' member with rioting in Floyd protests
    MPR News Staff
    St. Paul
    October 23, 2020 10:00 a.m.

Federal authorities have charged a Texas man with alleged ties to the violent “Boogaloo Bois” anti-government extremist movement in connection with violence in Minneapolis following the killing of George Floyd.

A federal criminal complaint alleges Ivan Harrison Hunter, 26, of Boerne, Texas, was identified as the person in a May 28 video shooting 13 rounds from an “AK-47 style semiautomatic rifle” into the Minneapolis Police Department’s 3rd Precinct building.

Authorities say the shooter walked toward the camera, high-fived another person and yelled "Justice for Floyd!" Investigators say he was wearing a distinctive skull mask they later saw in a photo on Hunter's Facebook page.

The precinct had been overrun at that point by protesters after police officers withdrew from the building.

Hunter faces one count of participating in a riot. He made an initial appearance Thursday before a judge in Texas.

According to the complaint, after returning to Texas, Hunter posted statements on social media describing the violence he allegedly took part in while in Minneapolis.

Authorities say on June 3, Hunter attended a George Floyd protest near Austin, Texas. At 2 a.m., he was riding in the front seat of a pick-up truck when police pulled them over. Officers allegedly found “six loaded magazines for an AK-47 style assault rifle affixed to a tactical vest he was wearing” along with three semi-automatic rifles and loaded pistols, authorities said.

After police seized the weapons, ammunition and mar1juana, they released Hunter and the two other men from the scene.

After the traffic stop, the U.S. Justice Department said agents became aware of Hunter’s “online affiliation with Boogaloo Bois member Steven Carrillo,” who was charged with the May 29 killing of a Federal Protective Service Officer in Oakland, Calif.

A confidential informant help provide information to the FBI about Hunter. The informant said Hunter admitted to shooting at the precinct and help set it on fire. He also confirmed his affiliation with Carrillo, according to the complaint.

In September, federal prosecutors charged two alleged “Boogaloo Bois” members, including a Minnesotan, for trying to conspire with an international terror group as part of a plan to “use violence against the police, other government officials and government property as part of their desire to overthrow the government,” according to the Justice Department.

Those men were allegedly on the scene during the civil unrest in the Twin Cities after Floyd was killed with witnesses telling the FBI the pair were heavily armed.
