#bbb is gonna be the GOAT. Even surpassing Curry. Everyone was dogging Lonzo after game 1 but he responded like a champ. Last night Lonzo took an L, but tonight he bounce back.
Luke Walton's offense is like the Warriors, where one player doesn't dominate the ball every possession. Even though the Warriors led the NBA in assists last season by a wide margin, their top guy was Draymon Green at only 7 apg (tied for 9th). Seems like the Lakers focus on getting the ball in Lonzo's hands each and every possession, which actually disrupts how their offense is supposed to work. During the 4th quarter against the Pels after Ball sat down, the pecking order disappeared, the other players stepped up their aggression, they crushed the Pels and took the lead. Within a couple of possessions after Ball returned, they lost their edge. It's something the Lakers will have to figure out. At the college level surrounded by talented teammates, UCLA was at it's best when Lonzo played conductor and directed traffic. This continued to work in summer league and also against the Phoenix Suns (who play like a summer league team). It remains TBD if Lonzo if improves enough to be a full-time conductor of a championship offense. Maybe it's best for him to become better off the ball instead of being a full-time setup guy.
Lonzo ball does not shoot like Kevin Martin at least not yet. Kmart actually continuously tweaked his shot throughout his career, his release is around the middle of his face and really in front of his body kinda with arms stretched out. It's a very quick release with no wasted movement because he doesn't bring the ball up very high and almost shoots it from his chest. Even then his shot has limitations, I remember when he played for Houston he only shot well when he dribbled to his left, and on all of his shot he kinda hops to the left side. Lonzo brings the ball all the way to the left side of his face and kinda flicks it, it's not smooth at all and there's a lot of wasted action. That said the coaching staff will probably tweak his shot throughout his career, but we gotta remember Martin came into the league as a scorer, he was a shooter to begin with, Lonzo isn't.
That's a good point. Lonzo is supposed to be a pass first PG. He is not expected to be an efficient scorer like KMart.
His father's hype helped him be a top pick and his father's hype might destroy any chance the kid had. He giveth and taketh away LOL!!! In an alternate universe, Lavar is a good, strong, but quiet father and Lonzo is selected late 1st round. Now a professional, he works on his game and flaws every day and goes on to build himself a more than solid career that includes an assist title or two and an all-star appearance or two.
Lakers traded D'Angelo Russell who is 1 year older than Lonzo and is averaging 22/4/5 in 26 minutes right now on good shooting percentages. It's crazy people thought/think Lonzo is some kind of a generational talent, he'll be Jeremy Lin type of player at best.
I think Lonzo needs to stop playing it safe and just be himself. Saw last night he only took 2 shots and was 0-2. I noticed if he gets the ball fullcourt the first thing he always does is pass it up court to give the illusion he's pushing the pace. But in all actuality he's just giving up the ball up for someone else to make a play. From what I see so far he's nothing special
Yeah but Ball is like 18 or something. With a dad as dominant as Lavar his kids will either be extremely rebellious or follow everything he says considering their ages. His dad is the biggest person in his life so I wouldn't be surprised if he just does what Lavar wants all the time.
Lonzo isn't looking very good right now. But give the kid some time. The 1 and the 5 are the most difficult positions to master in basketball. It takes time for them to mature. This is especially true for a PG who is a pass first rather than shoot first kind of play maker. John Stockton didn't score in double digit until he was 25. Same with Steve Nash. I don't think Lonzo is the next Magic Johnson or anything like that. But he has the tools to be a star some day, IF he has the right attitude. His dad is actually creating a bad atmosphere for him to develop.
wayy too early to tell either way. It's all his dad's fault whether it's overrated or underrated. We are only paying attention because his dad is a loud mouth, it's dumb, I won't make any conclusions until maybe after a year or two. All I know that is his shot is ugly and he has decent vision and passing
I don't think PG is especially difficult for star college PGs to make the immediate leap, at all. In fact, I always called it the easiest. But you just can't always fix a broken shot like Balls' over night, and can't forever give him excuses like we did Rubio. 7 out of the last 11 ROYs were point guards. 13 out of last 29, too. Also, Ben Simmons is having no problem. And he is their PG, let's make no mistake about that. Even basketballl-reference has him listed as a PG. So, make it 8-12 of the last ROYs are PGs.
