They are headed that way, but I think it is prudent to give them a week or two to come to their senses, that way you can say...we tried to negotiate in good faith, but they left us no choice. America as a whole would not like jailing everyone right away......but if they do it judiciously it will go over better. DD
Let "Tyrone" get subpoenaed and say nah that's ok I'm not gonna cooperate, he'd be in jail before he could finish the sentence.
Mr trump continues his attempt to obstruct the impeachment inquiry that is supported by our constitution. It is clear that these unlawful efforts on the part of the White House is part of a strategy to delay, delay, delay - as if that will change the outcome. The White House, and trump, are busy obstructing justice. (CNN) House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff on Tuesday called the State Department's blocking testimony of a key witness "strong evidence of obstruction" of Democrats' impeachment investigation, and the move is prompting House Democrats to issue a subpoena for the testimony in response. The State Department on Tuesday directed US Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland not to testify before Congress, scrambling Democrats' impeachment investigation and raising questions about whether they will be able to obtain testimony from other witnesses. But Schiff's sharp response to Sondland's absence is a sign of the escalating impeachment fight between the White House and Democrats. "The failure to produce this witness, the failure to produce these documents, we consider yet additional strong evidence of obstruction of the constitutional functions of Congress," Schiff told reporters. In addition to blocking Sondland's testimony, Schiff said the ambassador indicated he had text messages or emails on a personal device provided to the State Department that State was withholding from Congress, which Democrats also planned to subpoena. Sondland's attorney Robert Luskin said State directed Sondland not to testify early this morning. "He is a sitting ambassador and employee of State and is required to follow their direction," Luskin said. "Ambassador Sondland is profoundly disappointed that he will not be able to testify today. Ambassador Sondland traveled to Washington from Brussels in order to prepare for his testimony and to be available to answer the Committee's questions." ............................. Sondland was set to testify behind closed doors before the House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight committees as part of the Democratic impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump and Ukraine. Lawmakers were eager to press him about text messages he exchanged related to Trump's July phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the freezing of foreign aid to Ukraine that cut to the heart of the Democrats' impeachment probe. Sondland, a Trump donor and hotelier who has been EU ambassador since 2018, exchanged messages with Volker and a senior US diplomat in Ukraine about setting up the call between Zelensky and Trump and whether foreign aid was being withheld while Trump and his attorney, Rudy Giuliani, pushed for Ukraine to open an investigation. Now his testimony is on hold -- and it's not clear whether the department will also block other witnesses that Democrats are seeking. Sondland was supposed to be the first of two witnesses the committee would speak to this week, along with former US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, who is still a State Department employee. The State Department waited until Tuesday morning to direct Sondland not to testify, while it had been clear for several days he had agreed to appear. https://edition.cnn.com/2019/10/08/politics/gordon-sondland-house-impeachment/index.html
The Constitution only has power to the extent enough people choose to honor it. If you can flagrantly violate the document when it comes to emoluments and conflicts of interest, then why not violate the document when it comes to coequal branches of government? Why not just see how much power you can accumulate? It's interesting that 45's supporters talk about a "coup" when some people are trying to follow the law. It's an appropriate word, but not in the way or direction they are using it.
Pretty sober and pragmatic conversation, involving the two reporters who covered the last two impeachment inquiries (Nixon, Clinton). You can tell by the end that Woodward is really worried, and we all probably should be.
Trump should be escorted out in handcuffs. And the locks should be changed for good measure. Pence can stay until 2021 unless he wins.
It will get to where -- and maybe we're already there -- every federal employee in DOJ (and state?) has to decide exactly to whom they are responsible: one crazy executive and his enablers, or the constitution and everyone else (aka, "deep state"). For instance, dude could have defied orders and testified today, as the co-equal branch of government requested. Of course, despite his lawyer's statements, I don't think he never would. He's a Trump donor and stooge, by all evidence. Impossible to look away, impossibly sad to watch. The ideals I grew up with and how proud I was casting my first vote ... damn.
They need to just take the impeachment vote. Force the issue and force the senate to either conduct or deny a trial. Otherwise this isn't about principles, just posturing.
Trump asked Ukraine (and China!) to intervene in the 2020 election because of the democrats! He gave up Syrian Kurds to the Turks because of the Democrats!
