    You must mean back in the day after Bobby Crawford transferred to Rice from Michigan after failing to live up to expectations there. I know Bobby, went to high school with him at Eisenhower in Houston. He wouldn't know me from Adam right now, but a friend of mine/teammate of Bobby's played some pick-up basketball with him, and I followed Bobby's days at Rice pretty closely. Bobby was a chuckster, an undersized 2-guard who lacked handles, and who forced a lot of shots. Still, he was an McD's all-American, and was a big addition for Rice.

    I know they had opponents. My grandmother said that after the Rice fight song, the opposing crowd at football games would chant: "What comes out of a chinaman's ass? RICE! RICE!" Classy.
