    I'm not a nihilist by any means, but I don't think that's a bad thing.

    Trends shift after risks are reduced, like people driving even more recklessly w/ the advent of traction control and ABS, so I'd rather have an earth where 1 billion people can live like Americans today (minus the neuroticism and compulsive consumption) than 8 billion+ earth where we're constantly pointing fingers at each other for being sinful exploitive slobs who don't do their fair shares in keeping the planet alive.

    If/when pop growth starts cratering, this will disrupt the global engine in the sense of inflation losing one of its primary drivers. But "running out of people" by ad hoc driven decisions rather than by force or necessity is the least stressful out of the other outcomes...

    Ofc, if you deny the growing consensus that the current status quo is unsustainable, then you'd do more to get people to have babys as if there is a tomorrow that looks like today.
