This, so true. I'd probably keep an R22 unit until it was done. I only recently switched to R410 (in the last 5 years) because replacing the compressor and then obtaining R22 at a realistic price was getting impossible.

The only thing that frustrates me is the cheapness of the coils, I don't know if everyone knows, but there was a major lawsuit against just about all ac manufacturers due to the cheap ass copper used (iirc that was part of it, hell some of those hold inefficient units I think while use more energy will certainly last longer). I don't know if it's still going but for a long while coils were getting replaced for free.
