I guess the question is are we simply worse this year than last year Punter is the Same Kicker - Inconclusive since we just terminated Fat Randy Special Teams - Meh at best Defense - Seems worse JJo is not as good. KJax is not looking as good. LBers not looking as good Offense - QB not as good . . .so far . . . Running back not as good . . . Line Play is not as good. . . .TEs what TEs? WR had to say with the down grade at QB Rocket River Feeling like a wet blanket
Hoyer stats are similar to Fitz. Unfortunately Mallet played. All the new guys BOB got pretty much suck or are old. They're usually slow too. They fit his system though, so there's that. Versatility or something.
We had lucky turnovers last year that we are not getting this year. Last years defense looked good because we led the league in turnovers. I think the QB play is pretty similar, but our offensive line is garbage.
Why did we get those Turn OVers? I cannot beleive you lead the league and that is luck I hate to say it but i think it maybe a carry over from WADE I remember when WADE first got here . . . he was SHOCKED that the defense was not allowed to put up their hands in practice .. . and he stressed things like that and stripping I think now that he is gone . . . bad habits are starting to come back JJ isn't getting as many SWATs either maybe the league 'figured him out' but something is different I look to the fundamentals Rocket River
Wade was still here as our defense regressed. Actually most people pointed the finger at him for our defensive regressions. Under RAC last year they were tops, now they've regressed... I guess he's the problem again....... or maybe our players (sans one) just aren't good enough on that side of the ball.
A step backwards. Not surprising, though, because those wasted picks, year after year after year, have finally drug the team down to a level which could take years to fix.
It's possible OB and RAC put too much on the team when they ramped up the plays - on both sides of the ball. They need to dumb it back down to get the team clicking again and build some confidence. Then, baby steps when ramping it up.
I'm beginning to believe the reports that many players are just not buying what the coaches are selling. Plus the older vets like JJo and Cushing have generally been mediocre.
Fumbles are almost entirely a product of luck. We got a lot of them last year we aren't getting them this year. Interceptions to a degree can be created by getting ahead and forcing your opponent to be aggressive in the passing game, but they too have a lot a luck involved. Being great at forcing turnovers is a myth, and defenses that rely on them are never sustainable.
I think it's that teams are triple-teaming him this year, while guys like Clowney and Mercilus can't put pressure on the QB even though, numerically, 2 or 3 guys on the defense should have no blockers bc of the people on Watt. I don't mind that Watt looks human, as he's doing everything he can while getting tripled. But the other guys on that line have to step up.
Watt made so many big plays last year that kept the Texans in games. Expecting him to keep having a year like every year is unrealistic.
I think it was Jason Braddock reporting that the vibe in the locker room was that the players were not totally all in on what the coaches were saying.
