Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, eliminating constitutional right to abortion

Isn't it possible people think you shouldn't be killed by your parents if you are likely to grow up to be an uber driver or a housekeeper? What is the cutoff for someone for whom it is better to be killed than to end up with the life ahead? Even if you are born an orphan or into a struggling one-parent home, I would think you are better off making a go of it than having someone come into your room at night and smothering you with a pillow. Maybe that's a crazy position to take.

 

Not just any person’s personal freedom to make a choice, but to make a choice about their health, and that extends to the health of the family. A sick, broken, or deceased mom harms not only herself but also her living children who need her, her significant others, and those around her—the family unit. Family units break down when a woman’s choice of health is compromised, and the state forces decisions simply due to religious views or a lack of trust in women to make the best decisions for themselves and their families.

The result is a lack of freedom for woman, family, doctors, and society.

Again we can go back and forth on when life begins but it should be obvious to everyone that banning abortion leads to dangerous health complications in non viable pregnancies.

Either way, let them keep this up. I'd put money on Arizona Democrats winning both houses in November (and flipping at least one if not two congressional districts there). And it looks like there's going to be a ballot initiative to make abortion a constitutional right so this will all go the other way soon. Arizona Republicans will get locked out of power entirely if they keep this up.

 

Maybe those with non viable pregnancies just need to pray harder for a miracle from our all loving god?

I heard an interesting talk on this that Democrats understand if this issue isn’t resolved by November this will Democrats in the election. Similarly if the Border is still a major issue in November it will help the Republicans. As such Congressional Republicans are holding up bipartisan bills to address the border. On the contrary AZ Democrats are trying to get the 1864 law overturned as soon as possible rather than drag it out until after the election.

 

None of that makes sense but Trump supporters have shown they will go through all sorts of rationalizations to defend and justify what he says. This isn’t about whether it make sense but has essentially become faith arguments for partisans.

Putting aside the insanity of such a statement, Roe v Wade never held that someone could freely abort a child in the third trimester. Roe acknowledged that the state had an interest in the fetus so the state could ban abortions in the third trimester except for instances where the health or life of the mother was threatened. Not to mention that Planned Parenthood v Casey switched to the fetal viability standard so that restriction was partially extended into the second trimester.
