Suns G Marbury arrested Thursday night on DUI charge
    February 8, 2002

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA (TICKER) -- Phoenix Suns point guard Stephon Marbury was arrested Thursday night on a DUI charge.

According to a Scottsdale police spokesman, Marbury had a blood-alcohol level of 0.153 after he was stopped for excessive speeding. He was booked into the city jail and later released.

No additional details were immediately available on the arrest. The case will be referred to the Scottsdale city prosecutor's office.

Team officials could not be reached for comment after dispersing for the All-Star break.

Marbury was acquired by the Suns last July in a blockbuster five-player trade which sent All-Star point guard Jason Kidd to the New Jersey Nets.

Marbury, who turns 25 later this month, is leading the Suns with averages of 19.9 points and 8.4 assists.

However, Kidd is an NBA Most Valuable Player candidate after transforming the Nets (32-15) to the top team in the Eastern Conference at the All-Star break.

Phoenix (24-24) is one-half game behind Utah (25-24) for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Ironically, the Suns decided to trade Kidd after he was arrested last January on a domestic violence charge brought by his wife.

Marbury's arrest is the first unpleasant off-the-court incident for the Suns this year after they encountered numerous problems last season.

Along with Kidd's arrest, former Suns forward Clifford Robinson was arrested and charged with possession of mar1juana and for DUI last February. He was traded in the offseason to the Detroit Pistons for forwards John Wallace and Jud Buechler.

Suns shooting guard Penny Hardaway was charged in December 2000 with threatening the mother of his daughter with a gun, but the charge was later dropped.

This make the Kidd vs Marbury trade even more one sided.

Both are equally dangerous, but some would consider Kidd slapping around his wife even worse.

maybe we can trade Mobley and KT for Marbury. Then he and Steve can take turns getting arrested.

Ya should read the Kidd story in SI. It was pretty intresting and it was more focused on his personal life. He is not the thug that everyone thinks he is.

I think most people know he isn't a thug. The media and Colangelo made him look that way.

It looks like that Marbury hasn't been able to fit in with any team since he left the T-Wolves.
