Anyone doing this program with State Farm or any other insurance company? You put a tracker in your car and you can (supposedly) get discounts for good driving, etc.

I work from home full time now, so my car almost never leaves the garage. It's just our "commuter car" but I haven't had a commute since March, so now I probably only put about 25 miles a month on it, so figured I'd give it a shot and maybe get a discount for hardly ever driving it.

Anyone else using this and actually saving money? Or is this just smoke and mirrors?

These work best if you have multiple phones to manipulate the app. Drive safe, slow, and smooth during off-peak times with your insurance app phone, then be normal any other time. That will maximize your discount. You may also turn off/on tracking and other things so that your app can't run all the time - not as full proof as having a separate phone.

Lot of auto insurance companies have this. I had one mailed to me; but later to decide against it. When I didn't use/activate it, they asked me to mail it back.

Have a co-worker who use it, he gets a bit of savings.

It tracks things like if you suddenly hit the 'breaks' thing like that.

My wife and I have it. It says I have a $117 discount over the next 6 months. I don't speed or use my phone while driving but I'm apparently bad at cornering and braking which lowers my score.

We don't drive much anymore outside of going to the grocery store or to see my parents 20 minutes away every couple weeks so not sure what effect that has on our discount.

Yeah, tell me about it. All of my trips have zero "events" but all of my wife's have 4 or more. Usually hard braking and hard accelerating. And speeding. And phone use. So yeah...pretty much all of them...

Also, when I drive her car and she pulls up her phone while she's home, it shows up as phone use. Bizarre since she's not even in the car, much less driving.

I'm wondering if I should just take her beacon out of her car and just use the one for my car only. I'm sure our score would be close to 100% instead of the 73% it is now. I drive like an old man and she drives like a BAT OUT OF HELL.

Yeah most of the time if we're in my wife's car together I'm driving and she's on her phone. Not sure if it's counting that as phone use or not.

It’s definitely worth it if you’re hardly driving at all. Especially if you drive fairly cautious and aren’t not one to Tokyo drift then might as well take advantage of it. Most companies have it so they offer a discount up front just for trying and then they give you an additional discount after 3 or 6 months depending on how you drive.

There is no way I would put one of these in my car.
