I was thinking , Is Star Wars a "Futurizied" version of some event in History? I think It might be modeled after World War II

    • Luke - Harry Truman/USA - Has to take over the forces of good

Han Solo - Joseph Stalin/Russia - Rebel , Wont play by the Rules , Joins the Allaince on his own terms .

The Emporer - Hitler/Germany - Hitler's troops were called "Storm troopers"

Jabba The Hut - Japan - Tried to mess with something more powerful than itself , Got killed .

Obi-Wan Kenobi - F.D.R./USA - Gets killed in the middle of the struggle .

Princess Leia - France - Has to be saved after captured by the Emporer .

Darth Vader - Italy - The Good Inside Him Overthrows the Evil .
      [/list=a]
      just a thought .

Interesting moe. There are also alot of religious overtones in Star Wars (obviously).

I believe that when Lucas created the films and novels he primarily was working against his love of classic films such as Akira Kirosawa's Seven Samari, etc. His being an anthropologist was also obviously mixed into the storyline.

In terms of Kirosawa movies, Hidden Fortress is supposed to have been the largest film to influence the young Lucas. At least that's what I have read. I have never seen it so take with a grain of salt...

    dylan,

R2 and C3-PO were based on two characters from Hidden Fortress. That is realy all that is similar.

The cool thing about the conception of Star Wars is that Lucas sought different elements of history to be influenced in the manifestation of his movies. Such examples include: Darth Vader's helmet being modeled after the Nazi hemet. Black as a color the "bad guys" wore. The emperor looking so evil and his face resembling "the devil" - our idea of ultimate evil(especially in Return of the Jedi). You could go on and on.... There is so much symbolism and connection to the real world. I guess this has made the Star Wars movies have deeper meaning.

The stormtroopers in Star Wars are intended to be Nazi footsoldiers.

I saw an interview with George Lucas once where they asked him about the symbolism in Star Wars -- and specifically regarding any religious and racial overtones.

He said that there were none, and that he just tried to tell a good story, using the classic struggle of good vs. evil. He said that he never intended to have any religious overtones. He also added that while some people suggested that certain characters (aliens) had some racial characteristics, he never intended them to -- he just tried to create unique characters.

Chewey represents a man's best friend - yes, a dog! Jawas are interesting. Has anyone noticed that their language is exactly like the Ewoks! Boba Fett is a classic mercenary-hunter! Others have stated he represent an evil knight. All fun of course!

Lots of symbolism in those movies, intended or not.

One aspect is the "Quest." A young man out to find his true destiny is an aspect used in many movies and stories dating back to Arthurian legend and beyond.

George Lucas tried to model the scenes in ROTJ after the myth of The Labyrinth. Theseus (Luke) had to go through the Labyrinth (Death Star) and in the middle was the Minotaur (Emperor Palpatine), and he would have to defeat him to get out.
If you really wanted to go deeper, you could say that Ariadne (Darth Vader) helped Theseus find his way out. Except in the myth, Ariadne was a girl, and she ended up marrying Theseus.

    BTW, ever notice this:

    Luke Skywalker = Luke S = Lucas

Chewie is obviously the KGB , Han Solo's help . R2 and C3PO could be the FBI and the CIA , or Yoda could be the CIA and The Droids the FBI .
