i like how he's suing for an additional 250K for the fine the Knicks levied on him... I guess he needs that $40 million for himself and can't spare even a portion of it for that fine!
If he proves that the newspaper did it in malice, which is almost impossible to do, he deserves that money...
Not to quibble, but the $250K was levied for not reporting the injury. It had nothing to do with the circumstances surrounding the injury. Sprewell has a contractual duty to report all injuries incurred off the court, and he can't claim the NY Post had anything to do with his failure to do so.
I wonder if the size of that fine is because of the newspaper artical at all. Do atheletes normally get fined that much for simply not reporting an injury?
I guess that's up to a court of law to decide. That's assuming that the fine amount doesn't get reduced in arbitration.
I love that his agent is claiming he broke his hand during routine operation of the yacht. A break in that location is the classic punched wall hand fracture, near the pinky knuckle. I suppose they could send a criminal lab in to test the yacht for yack! And just exactly how screwed are the Knicks now? Think Latrell is looking forward to playing for the team that fined him big time and has just now suspended him?
It's only a matter of time before he starts chasing Layden around the locker room with a ginsu knife. what a classy guy.
I like how they word this: "Sprewell's agent announced a $40 million lawsuit against the New York Post for its account of how he got hurt" they can't say "defamation of character" because there is no value to his character or reputation of any measureable amount. $40 maybe but not $40 million.
Yeah, "screwed" is an understatement. At least we didn't get stuck with Houston's $100 million contract.
