So my best friend is 3 hours short of graduating but is still graduation to walk. Is that possible?

    He wants to walk because he already invited many of us and doesn't want to tell his family. Will he still be able to walk at graduation?

    Yes, you can still walk. But obviously won't receive the diploma.

    Yeah they did it for me, you can go to your counselor and if you are within a certain number of hours or about to finish they you can walk.

    I went to a very large public university so idk if this is the norm

    But they don't give anyone a real diploma when they graduate, it's always just a generic paper, they mail you the real diploma later

    I know Summer finishers at a lot of schools graduate with the Spring students.

    I think they should make your friend crip walk across the stage since he didn't actually graduate but still wants to walk. It would add excitement to the ceremony and be the only proper solution to this issue.

    yeah, walking doesn't mean you graduated...yet, you don't get your diploma until grades are finalized, so if you failed, you don't get a diploma, hence have to take class again.

    What's going to happen is that his name will be called and he will walk up to shake the dean's hand and the dean will announce to the entire audience that your friend is attending graduation even though he didn't graduate cause he's a loser...

    Does anyone actually get a diploma when they walk? I figured the whole thing was just a formality and the diploma came in the mail.

    This. And I wouldn't even catagorize Texas State (my alma mater) as REALLY large.
