Very beautiful when she's was younger. Unique artist who did it her way. Loved her music from the beginning. Mandinka. I think mental health issues finally got the best of her. RIP If you are struggling, get help. It can be the difference.
Really sad, a wonderful voice for sure. I assumed she was much older, 56 is way too young, RIP.......
Hauntingly beautiful song (written and performed by Prince and later Chris Cornell). Can't say I can recall any other songs she did. RIP...
I jumped in the car just now to go to lunch and Nothing Compares was on the radio. I instantly knew she was gone. I logged on here to check and sure enough. I was going to post something very similar to this. loved her early stuff. Listened often. She definitely struggled with mental health. It’s such a shame that so many battle everyday with this. Just a little effort or being there for someone may make a huge difference. RIP
One moment you're in THIS thread: https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/would-you-sleep-with-a-55-year-old.310094/page-8 the next moment you GONE
Fun fact - it was really The Edge (from U2) who discovered her in the Dublin club scene. This was over a year before her debut album. He was making a soundtrack for some French film called Captive and needed a female vocalist for this hauntingly beautiful song:
Ngl, I thought she was older. Must've been really young when she did SNL. I hope she had a full life. RIP
Wow, I am stunned by this news. I haven’t read the article but if what I read earlier in this thread about her son dying recently, this sadly is not a surprise. I remember reading somewhere that a writer asked her why she shaved her head, and her response was that the record label wanted to promote her based off her looks and not her voice. So, she made the gutsy decision to shave her head so they would have NO choice but to listen to her voice. I actually think this is her best song:
its very sad, but sadly not surprising. seemed like she was heading towards this for a long time. and then her 17 year old kid committed suicide last year. ill just repost some stuff ive said about her in the past, but also tell everyone to go listen to lion and the cobra and realize that she was only 20 when she made it. ive always said that she didnt get enough credit for the influence she had on so many who came after her. Recommendation on badass all girl Rock bands!! Who are you favorite female singers of all time
rip. i wasn't around yet, but what happened after her snl thing? was she sued? kicked out of catholicism?
it tanked her career and made her a villain. Sinatra even said he wanted to smack her around. she was right all along though
I’ve been very sad over this. She was such a great voice, brilliant musician and so tortured. She belongs in the pantheon of great Irish artists like Joyce, WB Yeats and Shane MacGowan as her voice and songs were so ethereal but so full of pain and longing. While Nothing Compares 2U and Mandinka were her big hits I’ve been listening to this song a lot. To me this song really captures the complexity of her life and the Irish English relationship. I got back just a little while ago from a friends’ show and they let me close out the night with a tribute to Sinead. I didn’t try to sing one of her songs but did The Fields of Athenry, another Irish song about loss for her
