Ya...the fact that there probably wouldn't be any significant discussions with Malzahn until after the BCS Championship and the fact that he could very well be offered a HC job makes him an unlikely candidate. Harsin would be a very good hire IMO. He's a Mack type of guy and our players fit in his scheme a lot better as well. Hopefully we can get this out of the way because I really want to also fill in the rest of our assistants (especially OL).
Who's responsible for the offense right now at Boise? I kind of assumed Chris Peterson was the genius behind that offense - anyone know what role the OC plays there?
Will Gilbert still be the quarterback next season? If so, I'd still expect problems with the offense.
Mack has said that all positions are open but I won't be surprised if GG is starting next fall whether he deserves to or not. Hopefully the next OC can either turn him around or convince Mack to start one of the younger guys (McCoy or Wood).
If Chad Morris is hired, without a doubt yes. If anyone else is, then I'd expect Garrett would have to win the job. All reports indicate that Connor Wood (who we redshirted) is looking pretty good.
This article has been making its way around Longhorn message boards: http://smartfootball.com/gameplanning/breaking-down-boise-how-the-broncos-use-leverage-numbers-and-grass-to-gash-the-opposition Supposedly, Harsin calls all of the plays. At the very least he has been OC since 2006, so he has had 4 years to learn under Peterson. He's had to have learned how to run that offense by now. At the very least, he'll come with an interesting playbook, a successful pedigree, and no baggage. He's my number one. But if we somehow can't get him (or any other big splash hire like Malzahn/Holgorsen) then I'd just go ahead and give Major the job. I feel he is the only way this administration can accomplish not grabbing a big name and keeping the majority of the fanbase happy.
"The good news is there is still plenty to work with provided Gilbert is given an actual scheme to execute as opposed to drunk dialing Greg’s phone book o’ bubble screens for third down salvation." Awesome quote is awesome.
Apparently Malzahn has been offered the Vanderbilt job at $3M per year! Not sure if he'll take it but there's probably no way he'll be a coordinator next season, for any school.
I think this may be true. However, be careful following Chip too closely. He's often fed misinformation purposefully. I don't think he has in this instance, though.
